BOURGEOIS BESTS CALEB DUNN MEMORIAL 100 FIELD AT PETTY RACEWAY

Veteran Memramcook racer picks up second win of 2015 season

(RIVER GLADE, NB - August 3rd, 2015) - Luc Bourgeois of Memramcook returned to Petty International Raceway victory lane Sunday as he took the checkered flag first in the Caleb Dunn Memorial Sportsman 100. The win is the second on the season for the #88 Wizzard Overhead Doors/Linde Ford team after winning the LaFarge Aggregates and Concrete season opening event on May 16th.

Returning veteran and fan favorite Laurie Cormier won his heat race and started from the pole in the event. Cormier led the opening 20 laps of the 100-lap feature before a water pump belt broke on the #53, opening the door for Sydney, Nova Scotia’s Chris Reid to take the lead. The time at the top was short lived for the #31R Chevrolet as Bourgeois would take the lead on Lap 28 and hold it to the checkered flag.

Bourgeois was far from unchallenged up front for the lead in the race. Aside from Reid, the Rodgers brothers, Andrew and Matt from Smithtown and St. Stephen’s Greg Fahey were amongst the drivers giving Bourgeois a run for his money over the 100-lap distance.

The race featured 13 cautions, with five flying in the last 15 laps of the main feature. The final restart set up a four lap dash to the finish, with Andrew Rodgers holding off a hard charging Kenny MacKenzie Jr of Salisbury for the runner-up position behind Bourgeois. Byron Bartlett and Fahey completed the top five in the 22-car field.
Cormier, Bourgeois and rookie Neal Crawford won heat races in the 22 car field.

The race also served as the second of three rounds in the New Brunswick Short Track Challenge for Sportsman. Standings after two races in the series were unavailable as of press time. The final round of the challenge series will run on Saturday, September 19th at Speedway Miramichi.

Gary Tingley of Colpitts Settlement took home a convincing victory in a caution free affair in the CMax Street Stock division. Tingley, who led every lap, pulled away from the battle for second at the end of the 30-lap feature, which featured visiting driver Brandon Snow from Oyster Bed Bridge, Prince Edward Island edge out sophomore driver Nick Cudmore for the spot. Shawn Lewis and Martin Landry completed the top five in the 14-car field. Tingley and Snow took home Street Stock heat races.

Point leader Mike Weagle rebounded to take home the 25-lap Mister Transmission Mini Stock feature, leading the final 20 laps en route to the victory. Rob Poirier was second in the feature event with a returning Dustin Phillips taking third place. Heat race winner Tim Webster placed fourth with Eugene Weagle coming home in fifth place. The feature race featured two caution flags.

Braden Langille capped off a busy weekend by taking home the Leisure Days RV Bandolero main feature on Sunday. Langille, who competed in three races in as many days and at as many tracks, made the move on “The Flying Frenchman” Michael Cormier with five laps remaining in the event. Point leader Ashton Tucker followed Langille through when the #51 took the top spot, while Mackenzie Brewer made the move on Cormier for third in the last two laps. Cormier had to settle for fourth, with sophomore Levi Rossiter coming home in fifth. One caution on Lap 11 slowed the main feature. Cormier and Langille won heat races to set the tone for the 20-lap feature.

The Atlantic Modified Tour and Eastern Super Mini Cup Series also made appearances on the Caleb Dunn Memorial card at Petty International Raceway Sunday. Doug Matchett of Miramichi won a 35-lap, caution free, Atlantic Modified Tour race over Joe Hoyt and rookie Justin Beers. Matt Watson of Summerside, Prince Edward Island took a crash shortened 17-lap Eastern Super Mini Cup Series feature for his fourth consecutive win on the 2015 season. Mike Weagle and Chris Wilson joined Watson on the podium.

The next event for Petty Raceway is the 51st River Glade International Weekend, featuring two big nights of stock car racing action. Friday, August 21st at 7:30pm will see racing action in the Jones Auto Body Sportsman 100, CMax Street Stock, Mister Transmission Mini Stock and Leisure Days RV Bandolero divisions. Saturday, August 22nd at 6pm will see touring action in the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour, Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour and Atlantic Modified Tour.
