EMMA'S BACKPOARCH HOST'S FIRST OSS MEETING FOR 2008
Ancaster Ontario, Canada
Despite the huge snow storm across Southern Ontario Sunday, Emma's Backpoarch and Roadhouse owner Steve Smith made it through the weather to open the doors of the Ancaster located franchise, for the first general meeting of the Ontario Sportsman Series.
It was to be the first gathering of Canada's fastest growing Stock Car Series and there was no way that Emma's Owner, Steve Smith was going to let a little snow get in the way.
" I live out of town, but last night I stayed in town, to make sure the doors were open for the OSS as promised as I knew the weather was not going to be good, but we had a date to fulfill with the OSS and I had no other choice but to be there for them" said Steve Smith.
As promised, Smith delivered, and although several OSS Teams could not make the trip due to Winter Weather travel, a head count of 38 members still some how made it, although the head count was expected to exceed 70.
The OSS meeting was opened by John Alguire of London, who made the travel to Ancaster regardless of weather, and officially opened the floor for the OSS 2008 Season. Although the weather was bad, the information coming out of the meeting was positive, and for those that made it, the teams present seemed inspired and ready to move forward in 2008.
2007 OSS Champion, Steve Robblee was scheduled to receive the 2007 Ontario Sportsman Series Trophy at today's meeting, but bad weather made it impossible for the cast and crew of the Lethbridge's, who are credited with forming the OSS ,to make the trip and present the award. It will be presented at a later date, and our congratulations and best wishes go out to the #28 of Steve Robblee.
The big news that came out of the meeting was Race Dates and Tracks that have signed for 2008.
The first Track to sign with the OSS was announced as Flamboro Speedway, a new venue for the OSS in 08' and a show that everyone is really looking forward to. Flamboro will be one event that many members have always wanted to race at, and the welcome mat was thrown out early by John and Frank Casale, Flamboro Owner's, giving them the first mandated date of their choice. Other tracks that have committed to a show in 08' are some of Southern Ontario's best race facility's. On the Schedule for 2008 are Delaware Speedway, Mosport Speedway, Sauble Beach Speedway, Kawartha Speedway, Barrie Speedway, Sunset Speedway, Peterborough Speedway, and still awaiting the announcement of Cayuga Speedway.
The 2008 OSS Rule Book was handed out and the feedback was all positive as David Alexander presented what was expected for 08' with the highly competitive racing of the Ontario Sportsman Series.
" The best part about being the Operations Director for the OSS is the fact that the people I have to work with are all real racers. They understand the importance of keeping the rules strict, but still cost effective, manageable and everyone seemed to be supportive of what we have laid out for 2008" said Alexander, OSS Director of Operations.
David Didero, Sales and Marketing Director said the racers that made it through the weather were some of the folks you want voting on the series rules and intents. " The impact we have in motorsports is backed by veteran calls from our Racers. They know what it will take to put on a good show. They know what to allow to make it competitive, and most importantly, they see the series growing by allowing opportunities to racers that want to race in a travel series without the huge overhead cost's. They are all professionals... and deserve a series like the OSS"
The OSS is planned to start its broadcast of "Inside the OSS", presented by Canadianracingonline.com as early as the first week of January, and several Drivers, Team Owners and Sponsors are already lined up to appear and answer questions from the racing public, which will keep the fans of the OSS up to speed over the winter months.
CRO will announce the OSS Show debut soon, allowing the members and guest of CRO enough time to prepare questions and comments for the guests of Inside the OSS.
The OSS will hold it's second general meeting in late January of 2008, and hopefully the weather will be more cooperative, allowing all Teams the opportunity for input
Several new teams have entered the series, and at present the car count for next year is expected to be 36, a number that has been growing quickly as Racers see the benefits of competeing in the Ontario Sportsman Series,
as a great move in their motorsports futures.
The OSS would like to express their appectiation to EMMA'S Back Poarch and to the Teams that made it through the snow to support the first OSS General meeting for 2008
