Kids Get in Free with a Costume for Halloween in August

OHSWEKEN, Ont. – August 9, 2017 – After resting peacefully for two weeks following the most successful week in track history and a rainout last Friday night, Ohsweken Speedway returns to action on Friday, August 11 for Halloween in August night presented by Renway Energy featuring the Art Hill Memorial.
Ohsweken plans to build on the momentum of its successful July bookend when it returns to action on Friday night with the longest race of the season for the HRW Automotive Mini Stocks. The 42-lap race is run in honour of the late Art Hill, who his No.42 machine at Ohsweken in the early years at the track. Past Art Hill Memorial winners include well-known Ohsweken names such as Rick Emberson, Lee Winger, Robbie Rounce, Marc Hallett, Dave Bailey, Mitch Brown, Trevor Goulding, and Karl Sault, and Wall of Fame inductee Abel Castelein. Jake Bazuin ended his brother Mark’s winning streak in the event when he won the 2016 edition.
Also on the schedule are the Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars, Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks and Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers for full points races as several drivers look for a coveted parking spot in Lucas Oil Victory Lane.
Race time is 7:30pm with Pit Gates scheduled to open at 5:30pm and Spectator Gates opening at 6:00pm. Admission for adults is just $14, $10 for seniors (65+), Youths (13-17), while kids age 7-12 are only $3. Children 6 and under are free.
Children 12 and under who wear a costume for Halloween in August will receive free admission to the track. Adults who wear a costume will be eligible for discounted admission of $10.
Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars
The Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprints Car have sat idle since Kyle Larson won the Burger Barn Northern Summer Nationals on Monday, July 25. On the strength of his four weekly wins this season, Dylan Westbrook holds a 44-point lead at the top of the standings over Fenwick’s Jim Huppunen. Hamilton’s Mikey Kruchka and Caistor Centre’s Cory Turner are deadlocked in third at 531 points apiece while Brantford’s Mitch Brown is just two points back of them in fifth.
Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars
The Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars return to action for the first time following the Ackland Insurance Clash of the Crates where Holly Porter of Delhi, Ont. went to Lucas Oil Victory Lane and claimed the $1000 winner’s prize. Entering this week’s action, Porter sits second in the championship standings, just seven points behind leader Mack DeMan of Mississauga, Ont. Behind the top two are Caledonia, Ont. natives Jesse McDonald and Mike Thorne while Scotland, Ont. driver Shone Evans completes the top-five.
Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks
Ryan Beagle of Vittoria, Ont. ended the Dave Bailey and Ryan Dinning win streak that dated back to July 2016 with his popular win in the 50-lap Brock Leonard Memorial for the Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks during the Six Nations Showdown on July 25. While Bailey, from nearby Hagersville, Ont., finished outside the top-10 for the first time this season, he still holds a convincing point lead with a 73-point advantage over Dereck Lemyre of Hamiton, Ont. Dinning, of nearby Caledonia, sits third in the standings ahead of Jim Lampman (Caistor Centre, Ont.) and Ken Sargent (Hamilton, Ont.).
HRW Automotive Mini Stocks
The HRW Automotive Mini Stocks will run their longest race of the year after competing in their shortest race of the season in the Northern Summer Nationals. The twin 15-lap Features with no heat races saw Bobby Tolton and Brandon Crumbie race to Lucas Oil Victory Lane. Those drivers hope they can carry some of the momentum into the biggest race of the season at the Art Hill Memorial. Jon Janssens of Woodstock, Ont. is the current HRW Automotive Mini Stock point leader, but has just a six-point advantage over Caledonia’s Mark Bazuin, who won the event in 2014 and 2015. Crumbie of Cookstown, Ont. is third in the standings, while rookie driver Nick Masi of Fenwick, Ont. is fourth and Caledonia’s Tim DeBoer completes the top-five.
Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers
The Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers will return to action with Ohsweken’s Lucas Smith at the top of the standings. Gillian Hils of Dundas, Ont. is second in the standings, 48 points back of the lead. Ohsweken residents Paul Longboat, Dustin Longboat and Jerry Burnham currently occupy the final spots in the top-five.
