2007 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Schedule Announced

12-race, 10-track, 5-province schedule debuts on May 26 at Cayuga Speedway

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 17, 2007) – The inaugural season of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series competition will begin on Saturday, May 26 at Cayuga International Speedway, and includes races across 10 tracks throughout Canada, with the season-ending event on Sunday, Sept. 23 at Kawartha Speedway.

“The 2007 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series calendar presents a challenging variety of racetracks in key markets, from the sizzle of running in conjunction with the NASCAR Busch Series race in Montreal and during the Champ Car event in Edmonton, to storied oval and road circuits across Canada,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR’s managing director of racing operations. “Coupled with a strong, recognized series sponsor and a tremendous television package, this sets the stage for an outstanding season of racing.”

Canadian Tire Corporation announced its official entitlement of the newly formed series in September, 2006. The series is also supported by Canada’s leading sports network, TSN, which will televise 12 one-hour broadcasts featuring racing action from each series event.

“As the country’s leading automotive retailer and an avid supporter of racing in Canada for more than twenty years, we are thrilled to be able to bring the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series to drivers and race fans across the country,” said Tony Kuczynski, vice president, automotive, Canadian Tire.

“The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series offers TSN the opportunity to showcase and support Canadian drivers and Canadian racing as part of the network’s all-encompassing NASCAR coverage,” said Phil King, president, TSN. “As NASCAR’s popularity north of the border continues to grow, TSN has enjoyed increased NASCAR audiences, which have more than doubled in the past 10 years.”

The 2007 schedule will include a visit to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal’s famed 2.71-mile road course on August 3-4, as a companion event to the NASCAR Busch Series which will make its Canadian debut.

Other key dates:

The 2007 schedule includes races on eight ovals: Cayuga International Speedway (2), Barrie Speedway (2), Sun Valley Speedway, Mosport Speedway, Riverside Speedway, and Kawartha Speedway; and four road courses: Mosport International Raceway, Grand Prix Edmonton, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres.
On May 26 and Sept. 1, the Series will visit the renowned Cayuga International Speedway, a 5/8-mile track that has long been associated with some of NASCAR’s biggest stars.
On June 16-17, the series will run at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario at the facility’s 2.5-mile, 10-turn road course. The series will return on August 11 to race on the Mosport Speedway, the facility’s ½-mile oval.
On July 1 and Sept. 8, the series will make stops at Barrie Speedway. Barrie is a 1/3-mile oval and a feature track for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.
In July, the series will make its western swing, with races at Sun Valley Speedway in British Columbia and at the Grand Prix Edmonton in Alberta. Sun Valley Speedway is a ½-mile oval and a featured track for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. The Edmonton race is a companion event to the Grand Prix Edmonton, a 1.973-mile temporary road course constructed on runways at an active airport.
On Aug. 17-19, the series will be a companion event to the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres. The event will take place as part of the historic racing weekend on the city’s 1.53-mile street course.
On September 15, the series will make a visit to Eastern Canada at Riverside Speedway, a 1/3-mile oval track that is a scale-model of the legendary Bristol Motor Speedway, and is located in Nova Scotia.
The Championship will run its final event at Kawartha Speedway, a modern, progressive banked 3/8-mile oval that always provides fans with tremendous racing action.
NASCAR has a strong fan base in Canada with 5.8 million fans, representing one out of four Canadian adults. NASCAR is the No. 1 motorsport series on television in Canada. TSN recorded record ratings for its coverage of the 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series with a national average audience of 332,000 viewers, up 15 percent from 2005.

NASCAR has a long and celebrated history in Canada, having held sanctioned events in many different NASCAR divisions dating back to the 1950s. In 2007, NASCAR will continue to support Canadian motorsports with three main initiatives: NASCAR Busch Series race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at circuits throughout Canada, and the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series races at Edmonton International Raceway in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Barrie Speedway in Ontario and Autodrome St. Eustache in St. Eustache, Quebec.

Great TV Schedule you can follow the series if you don't make it to the track. Way to go TSN It is like the the way Hooters Pro Cup does it.

There is something good

Hmm...Usually TSN has a way of screwing things up, but that doesn't look that bad of a TV schedule....
