TOYO TIRES F1600 CHAMPIONSHIP HEADS TO CALABOGIE FOR THE MCO TED POWELL MEMORIAL RACES
Series Points Standings Starting to Take Shape Heading
Into Rounds 9 & 10
TORONTO, ON (August 21, 2015) – The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship heads to the hills of Calabogie Motorsports Park this weekend, August 22 and 23, for the MCO Ted Powell Memorial Races, rounds 9 and 10 of the 2015.
The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship battle for A Class honours has seen Reid Arnold’s grip tighten on it with news that Brian Graham Racing teammate Zacharie Robichon will not be entered for this round. Arnold, of Keswick, ON holds 596 points based on some solid finishes this season but has yet to score a win. A new motor has been installed just in time for this event and he is expected to be very strong. Andre du Preez of Minesing, ON will most likely slip into second in the championship based on his tally of 546 and a rapid improvement in pace over last season.
“I'm excited to get back behind the wheel,” Arnold says. “It’s been almost a month since our last event and I can’t wait to get there and see if we can grab our first checkered flag.”
Winning doesn’t come easily and Arnold will have his hands full with several big name drivers this weekend. Mikhail Ghoikhberg has returned to the series and is sure to be a force. He will be joined by a pair of very quick competitors who have been racing in the US this year, Scott Andrews – an Australian now living in Las Vegas, NV and former winner in this championship Thomas McGregor of Saskatoon, SK.
In B class, points leader Connor Wagland continues his steady charge going into the weekend. Second in points Graham Lobban will be competing and keeping Wagland honest all weekend long and third place contender Amy Castell is now campaigning her car with technical support from Britain West which will surely put some pressure on the two ahead of her as she make her championship run.
There are some new faces making their series debut as well. Stephen Temple is campaigning a Van Diemen recently purchased from Britain West, Noel Castell, Amy’s father, makes his series debut. Local driver Peter Andrews will try his hand and vintage racing standout Shane Viccary is also debuting in the series.
The MCO Ted Powell Memorial Race Weekend is sure to be a fantastic event with over 150 cars competing in 7 unique classes of competition. Tickets for the event are free and can be downloaded from

The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship Series is the premiere open wheel series in Ontario, sanctioned by CASC Ontario Region and proudly supported by Toyo Tires, Honda HPD, Heather’s Heros, Cove Dentistry, Stäubli, Lincoln Electric and MK Technologies. The series is comprised of a six event, double-header format and competes at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Shannonville Motorsport Park and Calabogie Motorsports Park.
The Formula 1600 Super Series is the combined premiere events of the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship Series from Ontario and the Toyo Tires Formula Tour 1600 Series from Quebec. The series is comprised of a four event, double-header format and competes at CTMP’s Victoria Day SpeedFest, Formula One Grand Prix of Montreal, the Bay of Quinte Grand Prix, and the Grand Prix of Trois Rivières.
