Belyea and Howard Pick Up First Wins of the Season

For Immediate Release
July 7, 2013
by Angie Rinaldi

The best place to be to beat the heat on Saturday night was at the Brighton Speedway with five classes of racing action on the 1/3rd mile clay oval.  Hotch’s Auto Parts presented an exhilarating night including the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club, the Gord’s Water Vantastics debut along with Late Models, Pro Stocks and Comp 4’s.  Fans had the opportunity to support the Excel Tower Service Toy Drive and receive half off their admission as well. The Toy Drive received almost 300 new toys and over $250.00 with donations still rolling in, it was a great night all around at Brighton Speedway!

To kick start the night the Brighton Automotive Pro Stock feature hit the oval for the Larry’s Towing Triple Crown event.  The season to date has been dominated by #72 Doug Anderson and this night would be no different.  Anderson started in 12th position and it took him 12 laps before he would take over the lead.  #03 Justin Ramsay gave Anderson a run for the money but in the end Anderson would not be denied.

Gord’s Water Vantastics took to the track and in an exciting twist to the race the drivers and their passengers were forced to race off the end of turn 1 and 2 down over the bank.  This created some challenges for a number of drivers but #21 Adam Flieler had the obstacle mastered and it didn’t slow him down at all.  #55 Tristan LeClair chased Fleiler for the first half the race until mechanical issues got the better of his Dodge Mini Van.  Fleiler would go on to win unchallenged.

The Vanderlaan Building Supplies Pro Late Model 30 Lap Feature was led wire to wire by #25 Greg Belyea.  Belyea who has struggled to date this year started on the pole position but did not go unchallenged as both the #09 Mat Vanderlinden and #25 Charlie Sandercock applied pressure but Belyea would hold on for his first win of the season.

After an aborted attempt in June due to Mother Nature, the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club returned to Brighton Speedway Saturday night.  Brighton Speedway veteran Shawn Gregory was behind the wheel of the #01 Vintage car and looked extremely strong in the heat race.  However in the feature Gregory would fade and the #99 of Jason Powers would pick up the win.  Powers was challenged strongly on a late race restart by #70 Steve Arbuthnot as the two crossed the line in a near photo finish but it was Powers who lead most of the race and held on for the win.

The Bill’s John Comp 4 Division 15 Lap feature event went green to checker with just one caution to slow the race.  Jeff Howard lead most of the event but would be pressured a number of times by #78 Shelby Mills and #44 Brandon Wilkie.  But Howard who won a feature earlier in the year but was DQ’d for technical infractions would not be denied this time and would pick up his first ever feature win.

To round out an early evening at the track the Late Model Mechanics race saw Tim Jones in the #11 Corey Earl car take the victory over Sam Hazzlewood in the #55 car of Mark Rayner.  Tim puts a lot of hours in to working on the car and it was great to see him get rewarded.

Be sure to join us next week as Electro Cables and VanZuylen Tire & Alignment presents the return of the Sanderson Automotive Southern Ontario Sprint Cars.  Also featuring the Late Models, Canadian Modifieds, Comp 4’s and Stingers.    Gates open at 5:00 and racing starts at 7:00 pm sharp each Saturday night.  Don’t forget to mark Saturday July 27th on your Calendar as Deerhaven Farm and Garden presents the Adecco Summer Smash Monster Truck Show featuring Krazy Train and Aftershock along with a complete race program.
