I'm not old enough to remeber sorry... I'm 31 not 61. Dunno what you mean by a travelling driver, but if I was travelling, I wouldn't be travelling to a track that dosn't exist. I looked it up, it closed in 1976. I was born that year. October.. A car hasn't turned a lap there since before I took my first breath. Posted by: rjrinc« on: August 13, 2008, 11:30:04 PM »it was suggested at Barrie, and they ended up doing it, to get enough nights for the Whelen LM points series. One thing knowone has mentioned that could work for everyone involved is to run either Sunset or Barrie in the afternoon on a 1:00pm start. Start the other Barrie area track at 7pm.....those people who want to run both tracks now can. Yes those racers who decide to race both tracks run the risk of "breaking" at the 1st event but so do they if they were to run on the Friday night schedule if that were the case. This is something that has not been done here as long as I have been involved in stock car racing. Given the current state of racing I think this is something that should be done too shake things up and give our sport some excitement and give the real "fans" something new to look forward too and follow. Us racers who want to race, we will always load and run to the next race if the car will take it twice in one day......and the promoters pretty much know that......but what the promoters need to see is what the fans will do?? They won't know what the real results will be unless they try. Then why don't you see ALL the Kawartha cars at other tracks on Saterday? One night is enough for most people.. I'd like to see it. If you want to try it, go for it. If I'm wrong, I'll be very happy to see that I am. I just can't see it based on the example above.. No one says anyone HAS to run for points. I can take any time off I want. Point is, I don't want to, and have made a choice to run for points... Like really, its a few hundred bucks at the end of the year, and a trophee. But its the competion, I've said it before, points get me out there every week, and points make me want to get that extra position. I fail to see how can't benifit the fans... The way it is now, I can say, forget the points, and I can travel to any track I like any night, and treat that as an "invitational". Take away my points, I'm still going to be out there to beat driver X as often as possible, and keep a mental record of that. I beat X 2 out of 3 nights by 3 positions. Hows that different from I have 76 points on him? Take away the points, and I'm still going to run Kawartha and Mosport. To travel means that I had to constanty change my car setup, and pay $$$$ for gas. Invitationals are best at the end of the year. Just look at Autumn colours. By then points are done, and you can travel around a bit and not worry about the car. Saying that and points, I think I hit on your logic.. I just said points are done and I'll travel. But the real reason behind it is, 1) I've already had my fun at my local tracks 2) if I wreck the car, running hard at a track I am not familar with, I have a winter to fix it and don't lose a season.... Seem to me, like thats the time to do it, but then didn't Sunset cancel their NON-POINTS Frosty Special??? To close, and example of "not running for points". Mayhew (Kawartha 2007 thunder champ, and currently a close second) runs Mosport, but isn't there for the points (remeber no one has a gun to their head to run for them). He'll show up when he feels like it or Kawartha was cancelled. I can tell you, any track would be far better off to have a driver of that caliber there every night. If points are the reason so be it.... |
