Andrew Gresel Hopes To Use Past Delaware Success Towards APC Series Triumph

SAUBLE BEACH, Ont. (June 30, 2016) – Andrew Gresel is hungry to return to action with APC United Late Model Series at Delaware Speedway on Canada Day after a somewhat disappointing finish at Sauble Speedway last week.

Gresel fought transmission problems in a Friday night test session and the gremlins continued throughout the weekend.

“It wouldn’t stay in gear at all. It wasn’t working out. We pulled it out that night, and thought we had it somewhat fixed. We went back out Saturday and it was the same deal. None of the gears were working properly,” Gresel explained. “We ended up having to take it out and put in Chenoweth’s back-up. We got no practice at all.”

The Sauble Falls, Ont. driver was also at a disadvantage when his qualifying attempt was reduced to a single-lap after the team missed their spot in pre-qualifying inspection while changing the transmission. With just one lap, Gresel timed 17th fastest.

The Sauble Falls, Ont. native made the most of the day in his McRobert Fuels/Hygrade Roofing/F1 Freight Systems No.81. Over the course of 100 laps on a green racetrack, Gresel made it through to a sixth-place finish against a competitive field on the tight ¼-mile.

“We did our best. We put in a good effort for the amount of track time we had. We were fighting the car,” Gresel said. “There was a lot of side-by-side racing. Off the start it was really hard to make a pass anywhere. There was some good beating and banging.”

While Gresel wanted a third-straight trip to victory lane at his home track, he’ll settle for his sixth-straight top-10 finish to start the season. Now he’s set to make his second trip of the season to Delaware. The first one went perfectly as Gresel claimed the opening round of the London-area track’s Triple Crown series in May.

“The main thing was that it’s a home track deal and I wanted to have a better performance. I love that race track,” Gresel said of his Sauble performance. “There is some comfort going back to Delaware. I’m looking forward to going back there. Hopefully all of our issues are behind us and we can get back to racing.”

The fourth round of the 2016 APC United Late Model Series at Delaware Speedway on July 1 will begin with time trials. Racing is scheduled to start at 7:30pm. Find out more information at www.apcracingseries.com.
