CANADIAN TIRE MOTORSPORT PARK’S PAST CELEBRATED WITH THE CANADIAN HISTORIC GRAND PRIX

Corvette Will Highlight Father's Day Weekend Festivities

(BOWMANVILLE, ON – June 7, 2012)  This Father's Day Weekend will be a trip down memory lane at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park as the storied circuit plays host to the Canadian Historic Grand Prix, organized by the Vintage Automobile Racing Association of Canada (VARAC), June 15-17.

On track activities include Corvette as the featured marque, plus races in popular classes like the Open Wheel, Historic and Vintage Production, Sports Racer and G70+.  Canada's largest Mini gathering, Mini Meet North will return to celebrate 52 years of the Original Mini and 12 years of the New Mini.

The Grand Marshal for the Corvette feature will be Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee Eppie Wietzes.  Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1993, Wietzes competed in the first Formula One Grand Prix of Canada in 1967 and won the Trans-Am championship in 1981.

Other Canadian racing greats that are expected to appear over the weekend include Ludwig Heimrath, Bill Brack, Craig Fisher, Walt MacKay and Gary Magwood.

The 2012 Canadian Historic Grand Prix will return to the glory years of "grassroots sportscar racing" with three days of on-track action.  Hundreds of cars and drivers from all across Canada and the United States will participate.

Off track, the “Checkered Flag Charity Cruise”, which is open to anyone for a five dollar donation per car with proceeds going to benefit the Wounded Warriors of Canada, will take place on Friday evening.  Located on the infield of Corner 8, The PartSource "Field Of Dreams" car show will have sports cars and hot-rods from all over North America.

Everyone is invited to walk through the paddock and get up close to the cars and drivers.  There will be booths and vendors of all types set up.

The three-day weekend SuperTicket is just $30 until June 13 ($35 at the Gate). Single-day tickets are also available.  Each ticket includes parking and access to the paddock.  As with all Canadian Tire Motorsport Park events, children 12 and under are admitted for free when accompanied by a paid adult admission. Camping (general or RV) are both complimentary for the weekend.
