Auto Clearing Motor Speedway
Results for Wednesday, July 15, 2015
NASCAR Canadian Tire Series

After being edged out of the top spot on the last lap in 2014 and with
late race challenges for the lead this year, Scott Steckly hung on to
win the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Bay Crop Science Velocity Prairie
Thunder 250 Wednesday night at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway.  This is
Steckly’s third checkered flag in Saskatoon, having picked up wins in
2010 and 2013 in the #22 Canadian Tire Dodge.

With dark skies looming, the drivers went hard right from the initial
green flag, knowing the race could be shortened at any time because of
rain.  Rain did play a part as a very light sprinkling started in lap
185.  The track was starting to lose its grip by lap 191, bringing out
the caution for the sixth time of the race.

The last thing you want to do in the middle of a race is lose the heat
in the track, so the cars were kept pacing for 10 laps to keep the track
warm and dry.  This wasn’t even a rain cloud over the track, but one
several miles west, with the wind blowing in a very slight amount water.
The pavement didn’t even show wet, but it was enough to grease things up.

At lap 210 the red flag came out and the cars were pulled off the track
into the staging grid as the safety vehicles took over turning laps to
keep the track dry.

The system passed and the drivers were told to prepare to return to the
track after about 20 minutes.  The race got back to green in lap 216
with Steckly in the lead, being challenged by #99 Marc-Antoine Camirand.
Getting the green flag in lap 225 after another caution, Steckly leads
Hathaway, Ranger, Camirand, Dilley.

In lap 226 its three wide for the lead as Hathaway takes over from
Steckly.  Hathaway continues to lead as caution is out again in lap 231.
Steckly challenges Hathaway as they take the green in lap 237, finally
getting out front in lap 239, only to see the yellow lights again in lap
240 as debris hits the track from one of the cars.

It’s a five lap dash to the finish as Steckly jumps out front leading
Hathaway and Ranger to the white flag.  The order doesn’t change on the
last lap as Steckly holds on to win the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway
commemorative checkered flag, along with the Bayer Crop Science Velocity
Prairie Thunder 250 glass trophy.

The #27 WSSL Auto Parts Chevrolet of Jason Hathaway was second, Andrew
Ranger in the #27 Mopar/Pennzoil Dodge was third.  The #2
Johnsonville/Leland/BDI Ford of Mark Dilley and the #99 Grafoid/Braille
Battery Chevrolet of Marc-Antoine Camirand rounded out the top five.

On Tuesday night Kevin Dyck was the man of the night, winning the Family
Pizza 100, a 100 lap race for the Tiger Automotive Pro Trucks.  Kevin
was first to the line piloting the #10 Wheaton GM Silverado ahead of Ben
Pogoda in the #94 Speedtech Racing Development Toyota Tundra and the #15
D&S Developments Dodge Ram of Andrew Hardy.

Brennan Forseille has the honour of hanging onto the Wes Skakun memorial
trophy for the next year as he was the first to the finish line in the
50 lap Golf’s Car Wash Street Stock feature.  Forseille’s #28 Ghost
Transportation Camaro beat out a late race challenge by rookie driver
Scott Barrand as he took to the track for the first time in his new #1
Tailgatorz Camaro.  Curtis Houben in the #81 Culligan Water Matters
Camaro was third.

The Bryce Mann memorial trophy will grace the mantel in Jim Gaunt’s
house as he picked up the win in the 75 lap WSSL Automotive Super Late
Model feature in the #55 Sky Financial Chevrolet SS.  Howard Crossman
was challenging for the win, but couldn’t quite get there in the #56 CGI
Chevy.  Dave Bone took home third in the #38 Proline Impala SS.

It’s another short turn-around as action is back on the track this
Saturday, July 18.  The Golf’s Car Wash Mini Stocks, the Earth Works
Sask Legends and the CrimeStoppers Bandoleros will be joining the Shell
V-Power Sportsman as they run the 100 lap Race For The Cure Challenge,
raising funds for cancer research.

Don’t miss the action Saturday, with the front gates open at 5:00 and
the first green flag at 6:05pm.
