Something/anything on the ISMA show last Sunday...?
« on: August 22, 2013, 03:54:25 PM »
I was hoping to attend the supermod show last Sunday but other things prevailed and I couldn't make it. I know this site is not as busy as it once was but it is still rather disappointing that there's been nothing posted as to how it went! Just what kind of lap times did those things pull at Sunset anyway? It is one of the smaller venues they have on their schedule this season. ???

Here's the ISMA writeup

I'll post photos as soon as i can, but family emergencies are keeping me
away from the computer.

The Can-Am midgets put on a great race during their feature, won by Todd Cresswell.

Thanks for the link Derek. I look forward to your pics.  :)
I thought they would run between 12 and 13 sec laps and apparently I was in the ball park! 8)  Any impressions from local fans? I'd love to hear, especially from those who had not seen the supermods before.

I know when they run at Delaware you can hear them in Downtown London! I imagine you could hear them in Newmarket and Barrie from Sunset!!

they did turn a 12.09 lap-------- but I was disappointed in the show------only 15 cars and no passing in the feature------race was over in less then 20 minutes-----not worth the 40 dollar admission-----they should of had more cars and done some passing----what ever it cost the speedway they should give 1\2 it back-----sorry not impressed-----Oscar modifieds put on better shoe

I wasn't there after spending my racing budget Friday and Saturday, but two friends who went (one is the father of a well known sprint car driver) both messaged me that they thought the TQ midgets put on the best show. "The supers were follow the leader and intimidated by the "widowmaker", the front straight inside wall." It's sort of too bad that when the track was rebuilt the straights couldn't have been lengthened a bit and the curves made a little longer too, maybe making it a 4/10 mile. I always thought the front straight inner wall was put there to allow an inner pit for a Cdn Tire Series race which never materialized. It has claimed a few late models over the past couple seasons that at other tracks would have spun into the infield with minimal damage :-\

I'm not shocked the Can-Am's stole the show....That track would be perfectly suited for TQ Midgets...

Winged Supers on a little track like that are a different story...

Frankly, the ISMA cars are simply too powerful for that type of track. They simply cannot utilize the horsepower they have to put on a good show and the track is far too tight to pass on at the speeds those cars carry...

I just got home from Oswego (It's Classic Weekend)...The 60 lap ISMA National event had over 24 cars and a new track record was set in quals when Dave Shulick jr. ran a sub 15 second lap at over 150 MPH on the 5/8 mile oval!!!Canadian Mike Lichty won the race and it was his 1 lap record that was broken...

The fact of that matter is that we don't have an ISMA problem here...We have a Sunset Speedway problem in the fact that the facility is simply too small for the ISMA cars...

Either go back to a 2-day weekend at Delaware or...please...Someone get Cayuga Speedway up and running and let the ISMA cars loose on that 5/8 mile oval and lets see if another track record can fall!!!
