Heading McWhirter and Walters put on a show at Kawartha LLM100 lapper.
One of the best races of the season saw 26 llm’s turn out a Kawartha Speedway for the 100 lap Invitational. The llm feature was a two horse race as the Barrie Speedway car of Shawn McWhirter 31 and defending Kawartha llm champion Tom Walters 47 traded the lead all night. From the start the dominant car of McWhirter checked out early and put on a clinic for the first 25 laps but a series of cautions began to make things interesting as the top 5 cars all tried to gain the lead from McWhirter but only Walters was successful as he traded the lead with McWhirter several times until McWhirter regained it for the final time with about 12 laps to go.In the end McWhirter would cross the finish line with Walters on his bumper to take a well earned victory and $1,500.00.Walters said “it was a tough race and could have gone either way it's a real pleasure to run hear and be with cars that want to race instead of the constant blocking and banging and poor officiating I had had to put up with earlier this year.” The top 5 were :-- McWhirter, Walters, Deslile, Morrow, Tiemersma. Notable was 14yr old Brandon Watson who had a top five finish in the bag until handling problems ruined his night.Points leader Kyle Donaldson had a D.N.F, Dwight Brown did not take the green flag after an incident in the heat races, and Dwayne Baker watched from the grandstands in order to protect his fading Barrie Speedway points lead from Keith (THE CHARGER) Mcleod.
