Sunset Results August-16th

First a foremost...I hope Bob Mercer  is OK...anytime EMS & Fire is called to the track and such it's not a pleasant thing to see..apparently it was just a precautionary measure...but regardless..I hope he is doing ight...and he can be back racing real soon

On to the Races.. good car counts all around,

Thunder Car:33
LLM:18
4cly:22
4-Fun:38

All heats went off without any major issues...few spins here and there nothing major.

Features started out with the 4-funs..and what a mess it was.

Just a few laps in there was a fairly large pile up in turn-2..could have taken out a lot more cars then it did...and this brought out the red flag for the first of 3 times in the feature.

Just a few laps after the re-start...the 69 & 6? got tangled up on the front stretch..both cars got sideways and the little top-heavy Suzuki Swift went upside down...and slide along it's side..and ended up pitched on the turn 1 wall...and then slowly rolled off came to a rest on it's lid.  Trevor was ok...that kid has had his fair share of wild rides... 2 fires & 2 rollovers in a couple of seasons.... :o

Then the "big one" so to say came...as somebody spun the 3..I think the 88?  threw the grass in turn 1 and the car came sliding back onto the track..and that's when he got tagged hard by the 51 & 8 ....causing the problems with Bill, was a looong delay..at least an hour..as EMS had to be called to the track along with 3 firetrucks showed up...sounded like it was just a precaution thing..but never the less not something you like to see.  didn't really like the fact music was blasting and such...I know you want to keep the fans entertained but I didn't really find it the time to be doing something like that.

The race was then called with about 7-8 laps to go and Mark Kehoe took the checkers.

LLM was won by Chris Morrow doing a great job holding off Walters at the end...Tommy was on his bumper and was using it up!  but Morrow was able to hold on and keep Walters blocked in 2nd.  The race went flag to flag green..although about 2 laps in there should have been a yellow..a couple guys got sideways in the grass..and other cars bumped and banged trying to slow down..I'm sure there was some debire or such out there...but they didn't wanna throw the yellow.

Thunder Cars.

WHAT A RACE!  Nuff said...28 cars I believe took the green for the 50 lapper..and to only have 1 yellow was impressive...great job by a lot of guys.

Race was all Hurb Walters...took him a little wile to get the lead but once he did...it was all his race..a lot of guys had fast cars but nobody had anything for Walters.

Top-3 were

Hurb Walters
Charlie Smith
Wille Rynes

The only yellow was when the 28 got tired of the 09 lap car and spun him out of 4...causing half the track to be blocked..and 44,3,25,18 all had no where to go and piled in.  most cars continued but I bealive the 3 & 18 never returned.

Great race all around though...some of the best of the best drivers..and it was a hard fought race but clean at the same time....was really entertaning to watch no dout!

4cly was won by #10 of Doug Butler.

They also did a 4-fun kinda of B/Consi ..for the guys that did not make the feature..but I left so not sure who won that.

Now one thing I did noticed..posted by the front gate/concession stands ect.   was a sheet saying something like "Sunset is thinking about running Sunday afternoons next season...please X weather you would like to see this or not"   and from the looks of it...Sunday was winning...and that was what I checked off....because it would make for even bigger fields..and add another day of racing into a weekend...we shall see what happens with that, but looks like there conserding moving days.

anyway was a great night at Sunset once again.....next up for me is Barrie on Wendsday Night!

Nice race recap.  :) Just a few corrections, it was Bob Mercer #15 that was taken way by the EMS. and the 69 was Trevor Martin who ended up on this lid. The view from my seat was pretty good as i watched him try to roll up on my car, i was in the 6. :o :o :o
Keep the race recaps comin.

Thank you very much, I am just so proud, I can't believe I kept it for that long (but then again, it may have seemed "long" because of the reds, but still! I was there!)

Sure you might be able to borrow him sometime :)

It was a great night of racing even if the show did run a little late . The Thunder car field was stellar with several cars that could have won the show if a little luck had of gone their way .

A few suggestions that may help to make for a better show and perhaps speed things up a little .

 - Put ONE person in charge of coordinating track clean up and removal of wrecked cars . Someone that will instruct everyone else on which order damaged cars will be removed and what clean up is necessary .

 -  Anyone that requires the fire dept to come so they can be removed from their car should get a  mandatory 2 week sabbatical to rest up from their accident . Take a couple weeks off just to make sure your OK before you come back .

 - Wes may want to experiment with removing rear view mirrors from the 4 Fun class as it would seem several drivers are having difficulty with looking out the windshield while staring in the mirror .

Great night over all and i hope Wes runs more of these Thunder car invitationals , how about 75 laps next time ?

There was also a sheet posted in the tech lane area to check off Saturday or Sunday racing...and Saturday was definitely the choice of the race teams...I hope they take the race teams opinions into consideration first.. I hope everyone in the 4 fun feature is okay between the rollover and Bob Mercer being taken out in the ambulance...I spoke to the driver of the second place car and was told that he was handed the win as the 4 car was dq'd for having two different size tires...

Thank you! I swear I had no idea that poor tempo had it in 'er. I do really have to thank my brother for rushing his ass to the track to fix it when it didn't start for me when I got there.

I got an update from Anne, that said that Bob is still at the hospital in the Emegerency department and that they are doing a CT scan (or another CT scan) on him to see if they can find out more. He was apparently is great spirits this morning. So I am hoping all is going well with him and he has a speedy recovery.

Good night of racing.

You guys seems to be missing the point of  safty in the 4-funs. I posted a while back on that. At that time, having not seen your 4-fun class, I was assuming they sucked (a class of them out this way does). They were actually really good, that was some hard racing and quick speeds. Having seen it first hand, its just plain nuts not to have more safty in those cars. Last night was the perfect example..

69 on the roof, he scubed off a lot of speed going up into the wall with the other cars, then he scrubbed off more speed bouncing off the wall. Then with his realitivly gentle roll, it caved in the front of the roof. Bit harder of a roll and that would been caved right in on him. You all saw how long ti takes to get cut out of a car last night. Time for full 4 point cages. $230 from CSC, isn't your life worth that?

The 15's hit. If that was in any other class he would've walked away from that.. Cages and race seats guys.... And add fire suits.

Oh another one. Racing rim on the right front. You can get some real grip on the track, and those wheels are loaded like crazy. Its a matter of time until someone breaks a rim and heads full out into the wall, without a cage and racing seat. I don't want to say I told you so on that one...

Don't remove the mirror, all that is going to happen is a car is going to cut down on someone entering the corner under them.

Great night tho. Had a lot of fun. Lots of great people and racing there.
