First a foremost...I hope Bob Mercer is OK...anytime EMS & Fire is called to the track and such it's not a pleasant thing to see..apparently it was just a precautionary measure...but regardless..I hope he is doing ight...and he can be back racing real soon
On to the Races.. good car counts all around,
Thunder Car:33
LLM:18
4cly:22
4-Fun:38
All heats went off without any major issues...few spins here and there nothing major.
Features started out with the 4-funs..and what a mess it was.
Just a few laps in there was a fairly large pile up in turn-2..could have taken out a lot more cars then it did...and this brought out the red flag for the first of 3 times in the feature.
Just a few laps after the re-start...the 69 & 6? got tangled up on the front stretch..both cars got sideways and the little top-heavy Suzuki Swift went upside down...and slide along it's side..and ended up pitched on the turn 1 wall...and then slowly rolled off came to a rest on it's lid. Trevor was ok...that kid has had his fair share of wild rides... 2 fires & 2 rollovers in a couple of seasons....
Then the "big one" so to say came...as somebody spun the 3..I think the 88? threw the grass in turn 1 and the car came sliding back onto the track..and that's when he got tagged hard by the 51 & 8 ....causing the problems with Bill, was a looong delay..at least an hour..as EMS had to be called to the track along with 3 firetrucks showed up...sounded like it was just a precaution thing..but never the less not something you like to see. didn't really like the fact music was blasting and such...I know you want to keep the fans entertained but I didn't really find it the time to be doing something like that.
The race was then called with about 7-8 laps to go and Mark Kehoe took the checkers.
LLM was won by Chris Morrow doing a great job holding off Walters at the end...Tommy was on his bumper and was using it up! but Morrow was able to hold on and keep Walters blocked in 2nd. The race went flag to flag green..although about 2 laps in there should have been a yellow..a couple guys got sideways in the grass..and other cars bumped and banged trying to slow down..I'm sure there was some debire or such out there...but they didn't wanna throw the yellow.
Thunder Cars.
WHAT A RACE! Nuff said...28 cars I believe took the green for the 50 lapper..and to only have 1 yellow was impressive...great job by a lot of guys.
Race was all Hurb Walters...took him a little wile to get the lead but once he did...it was all his race..a lot of guys had fast cars but nobody had anything for Walters.
Top-3 were
Hurb Walters
Charlie Smith
Wille Rynes
The only yellow was when the 28 got tired of the 09 lap car and spun him out of 4...causing half the track to be blocked..and 44,3,25,18 all had no where to go and piled in. most cars continued but I bealive the 3 & 18 never returned.
Great race all around though...some of the best of the best drivers..and it was a hard fought race but clean at the same time....was really entertaning to watch no dout!
4cly was won by #10 of Doug Butler.
They also did a 4-fun kinda of B/Consi ..for the guys that did not make the feature..but I left so not sure who won that.
Now one thing I did noticed..posted by the front gate/concession stands ect. was a sheet saying something like "Sunset is thinking about running Sunday afternoons next season...please X weather you would like to see this or not" and from the looks of it...Sunday was winning...and that was what I checked off....because it would make for even bigger fields..and add another day of racing into a weekend...we shall see what happens with that, but looks like there conserding moving days.
anyway was a great night at Sunset once again.....next up for me is Barrie on Wendsday Night!
