Earl Ross
« on: September 18, 2014, 05:44:46 PM »
For those who may not have heard yet, Earl passed away this morning. Only canadian to win a Nascar Winston Cup race, Martinville 1974 and the 1974 rookie of the year. A true gentleman both on and off the track. Had the pleasure of watching him race growing up at nilestown and delaware speedways and got to know him while flagging the cascar super series from 1995-2000. Details of funeral arrangements to follow.

Hello all. I know its been kind of quiet around here but I just wanted to let everyone know that Earl was certainly well tributed at the track on the weekend, if you weren't there.

There was a special tribute program/story printed up for the program on Saturday, and it will be up on the Delaware website sooner or later, so just bear with us. (My "deal" is that if I write something for the speedway then I don't reproduce it here.)

Anyway, a couple of pics below.

1. Shawn Thompson had a special graphic done on the hood of his Late Model
2. A Cheverolet Laguna...same make and model as the one that Earl raced in NASCAR
3. An unknown man sporting an Earl Ross Racing Tshirt
4. Shawn again doing a silent victory lap during a ceremony before the races.

All in all, a few memories, a few tears and a few hugs were shared this weekend.

I will link to the Delaware.com article when it goes up.

What a loss for the local racing community. I was just looking up some Laguna info for whatever reason and stumbled across this thread.

Co-incidentally the Laguna picture is a 1975.5 Chevy Laguna S3.
The owner is my neighbor, Ed Valenciuk who has been a long time fan of Earl Ross.
He just so happened to have some info on his show-car placard-stand about Mr.Ross racing with a similar Laguna, along with a model car painted up to look like the original. That came in very handy when the car was displayed.

When I heard of the news from my wife, who works with Earl's children, Lisa.
I passed the news on to Ed, my neighbor and we ended up going to the Delaware race track in Ed's car to attend the Earl Ross tribute.

It was really nice seeing the tribute itself take place, and to see other people pay their respects in their own ways.
