RACE RECAP: JPII Catholic Secondary Wins High School Challenge

May 23, 2015

Release with Photos & Results: https://delawarespeedway.com/?p=14507

It was first-time winners all around at Delaware Speedway on Saturday afternoon when the first Super-Value Saturday event of the year took to the track.  Nathan Taback (#46) of London took his first-ever Bone Stock win, Jaden Chapman (#01) of Sarnia earned his first-ever V8 Stock Muscle Car Victory, and John Paul II Catholic Secondary School took home top honours in the High School Challenge.

Jaden Chapman (#01) of Sarnia won his first-ever V8 Stock Muscle Car race on Saturday afternoon.  Chapman had also won his qualifying heat earlier in the afternoon which was his first checkered flag at the speedway ever in nine years of competition.  Chapman started from sixth place and chased his way to Jamie Klumper (#07) of Mitchell's bumper to make the pass for the lead on lap ten of the forty-lap event.  A major caution came on lap 24 as Paul Fothergill (#33) of London blew a motor in front of Barry Watson (#45) of West Lorne.  The fluid on the race track caused both cars to slide into the turn one wall causing significant damage and ending the day for both top-running drivers.  Jamie Klumper (#07) of Mitchell would finish second, third was Piet Blaauboer (#777) of Strathroy.  The day proved to be hard on equipment in the fast-growing class, including an incident that sent Jeff Ferguson (#23) of Ayr hard into the back stretch wall during qualifying heats.

Nathan Taback (#46) of London won the Bone Stock Enduro 75-lap season opener.  Matt Langford (#03) of London, the 2013 Bone Stock Chaos Car Champion, started from the third spot and quickly jumped to the lead until lap seven of the event when he was passed by Nathan Taback (#46) of London who had started from a lucky 13th-place starting position.  Taback would continue to lead the remainder of the event.  Kyle Neumeister (#JPII) representing John Paul II Catholic Secondary School cracked into the top-3 on lap twenty-four then moved up to second on lap fifty-nine.  Third-place finisher Derek Moesker (#51) of Beachville didn't reach his podium spot until lap 63.  A notable incident during the event was one that saw Jeremy Howard's #4 skidding on its roof down the back stretch after contact with another car.  No drivers were injured during the incident.

===High School Challenge Event Results===

The High School Challenge event ran as a race within a race: part of the 75-lap Bone Stock Enduro event.  John Paul II Secondary School finished the day triumphant in the school's first-ever start in the event with defending winner Clarke Road falling to fourth.  Amazingly, all of the High School challenge schools finished within the top-20 during the event with the exception of Glencoe Secondary who finished further back with a blown motor.

1.    John Paul II Catholic Secondary School
2.    North Lambton Secondary School
3.    Huron Park Secondary School
4.    Clarke Road Secondary (Team A)
5.    JMSS Secondary Chatham
6.    Clarke Road Secondary (Team B)
7.    Glencoe Secondary School (Non-Finish: Motor)

Each participating school has worked to prepare a vehicle that will be entered into competition in the track’s most affordable entry-level series: Bone Stock Enduro.  During the race the cars are be driven by some of Delaware Speedway’s top drivers and personalities.  The Bone Stock Enduro cars are known for their ease of preparation and affordability making them the ideal choice for this unique class project.  The track was pleased to welcome the Member of Parliament for Lambton Kent Middlesex, Bev Shipley to the track in support of High School Challenge.

The next racing event at Delaware Speedway is Friday, May 29 at 7:30 pm.  The event will be the season opener for the Pro Late models, Super Stocks, and Trucks.
