Gary Gendron’s fiancée is trapped in the tangled wreckage of the Algo Centre, one of the two people police have confirmed are
inside. Lucie Aylwin, 37, works one day Saturday a month at the lottery booth in the Algo Centre Mall.

Gendron said he’d go in after her in a second if he could.

One person is dead and the other showed signs of life early Monday morning, when police detected breathing.

She was working June 23, when the roof above the lottery booth collapsed, sending two cars and tons of concrete plunging through two floors of the mall.

Gendron proposed to Aylwin Oct. 2011 at the 19th annual Autumn Colours in Peterborough by driving the pace truck and unfurling a banner asking her to marry him.

There, in front of a crowd of 5,000, she said yes.

this fellow was on AM640 this morning saying how he and his fiance are big stockcar fans, love osscar...he said as a joke they would go to the bathroom at the same time and use the stalls beside each other, i'm figuring port a johns, and they would tap on the wall between each other...he said his friends found it weird but it was a joke they shared...and that when he heard reports they could hear someone tapping in the rubble he hopes it is her...unfortunately she is also a diabetic...

This is so sad. She only works one day a month at this Lottery booth. Any updates on this?

This really shows me you have to live your life to the fullest every day. We really have no time to waste fighting with each other but enjoy the time we do have on this earth with our friends and loved ones.

If news reports are to be believed then this whole rescue effort has been a clusterf*** from the start. Stopping a rescue effort because a MOL engineer says a collapsed building isn't structurally safe. DUH! I can't imagine how the rescue personell felt being told to stop when only hours earlier they heard someone tapping on the debris. The ass covering has already begun. We will have to wait and see what eventually comes of all this and you can't always believe what you read in the media but something seems to be seriously wrong with the rescue effort. With all the expertise up there with the mines and military whoever is in charge has no end of people to ask for help. That may be part of the problem as it seems no one knows exactly who is running the show and who has responsibility for what. Lets hope a miracle, as we have seen in other disasters recently, happens and some of the people that were trapped are still alive.

It has just been reported at 9:50am that one body has been removed.
