Adrian Stahle And Tim Norris Big Winners At Flamboro Speedway

By Randy Spencer - The Lucas Oil Can Am Midgets and Ontario Pro Challenge were back at Bennett Chevrolet Flamboro Speedway for their third appearance of the year and once again didn't disappoint the great crowd on hand enjoying the great summer weather and spectacular racing action once again.

The Pure Stocks and Late Models both had the night off but there was no shortage of exciting racing action. The Mini Stocks led the night off with their first feature. A.J. Miller and Jake Gilbert led the field of 15 to the first green of the night but the caution would fly early as a couple cars experienced some problems. The 38 of Rodney Rutherford slowed and exited while the 76 of Shawn Taylor cut down a tire, replaced it and made it back (along with Rutherford) just in time to join the rear of the field as they once again took green. Lots of three wide action early as the cars jockeyed for position. Blair Wickett made a return after several weeks off. He got high in turn two on lap two and lost some ground early. By lap six, Chad Corcoran and Russ Aicken were battling each other hard. Hudson Nagy and Steve DeLeeuw got into each other on the back stretch on lap seven bringing out a caution as the cars continued the hard door to door battles throughout the pack. Aicken and Corcoran were mixing it up down the back  stretch and Corcoran got squirrely narrowly avoiding several cars in a wild spin. With Corcoran out of the picture that moved Clark Hartman to second place and he battled Aiken tooth and nail for several laps as the race neared completion. Aiken held off Hartman for the feature victory.

Thunder Cars were up next. Mike Gilmour and Bobby Mercer were up front for this one. Gilmour led early but the 89 of Brad Collison got by down the back stretch on lap three to take the lead. The battle for second was fierce has Shawn Arnott and Mark Burbridge with plenty of beating and banging. Burbridge got by and had his sights on Collison next. Burbridge closed the gap and eventually caught Collison and with some crafty driving and a little bump and run got by to take the lead. Collison tried hard to regain the lead with some bumping and banging of his own but Burbridge would not be caught and picked up the checkered flag.

The Pro 4 Modifieds were up for their ten lap heat race. Only six cars made the trip on this night as many of the cars traveled to Sauble to race there. The Nanticokes had this one in hand from the start. They broke away from the rest of the pack as Dan led Brian. Two cars retired with issues, Aaron Turkey slowed on lap two and Linc Erison got the black flag for smoking on lap five. The lead was safe for the Nanticokes as Dan continued his hot streak of late picking up another checkered flag.

The Ontario Pro Challenge were up for the first two of four ten lap heat races. The series had many fans and groups in attendance at the track as well tonight. A few drivers were also returning to the series after some time away. Larry Majuery and Malcolm McMaster and Rick Seeley making his second appearance of the year. The first heat of eight cars was led by Tim Shanahan and Shawn Stones. Shanahan led the first two laps but the 33 of Brian Stevanus executed a nice bump and run on lap three to inherit the lead. Ken Lillycrop followed Stevanus and the two broke away building an almost half track lead on the remainder of the pack. Stevanus ran away and picked up the checkered flag. Race two saw Dale Wilson and Patrick Freel up front. Some three wide action early as a familiar face took the lead with Tim Norris getting by Wilson and Mike Westwood. Westwood spun out of two on lap four bringing out a caution. Norris would battle Dennis Thomson for the remainder of the race with Norris picking up another Flamboro checkered flag.

The Lucas Oil Can Am Midgets hit the track for their two heat races. Adrian Stahle and Dave Hickson were up front. Stahle started to increase his lead on the pack along with the 94 of Ryan Fraser. Fraser did his best to close the gap and by the last lap had come pretty close but wasn't able to over take Stahle and he took the checkered flag. Lucas Smith and Barry Dunn were on the pole for the second heat. Tyler Turnbull experienced some problems off the start and wasn't able to take the green. Smith along with Darren McLennan broke way from the pack. On lap four McLennan got by Smith as the two went through 3 and 4. That's the way it stayed as the Midgets took the checkers.

After the Spectator Drags (King of the Hill) at Intermission we got right into round two with the Ontario Pro Challenge up first with heats 3 and 4. Shawn Stones and Peter Hattin sat up front as the cars took green. The two pole sitters started to break away and put some space between them and the rest of the field. The brothers Batty battled each other hard for third and fourth. Stones held onto the lead and picked up his first ever checkered flag. Race number four some some more exciting three wide action as Patrick Freel, Mike Westwood and Tim Norris battled for the first three laps. Norris and Thomson eventually ended up one two again as announcer Jon Houghton said, the two had some bumper magic going on as the battled each other hard late in the race. Norris made it two for two on the night picking up another checkered flag.

The Can Am Midgets would run and eight lap B Main to set the final positions for the Main feature. Dave Hickson and Todd Cresswell sat up front for the quick little race. Tyler Turnbull was still experiencing some mechanical issues and went off on lap one.Hickson, Cresswell and Rob Neely got off to a good start and battled early. Cresswell got by Hickson on lap three as the two would head into turns 3-4. The next lap Neely pulled the same move on Hickson to take over second and just barely two minutes of racing and it was over that quick with Cresswell picking up the win.

The Mini Stocks hit the track for their second feature with Rick Robinson and Blair Wickett sitting on the pole. Early on Chad Corcoran, Shawn Taylor and Blair Wickett broke away. Taylor seemed to have his issues from last week ironed out but early on he slowed don the front stretch and retired to the pits leaving Corcoran and Wickett to do battle. Wickett led the first six laps but Corcoran got by, took the lead and held it until the end to pick up the feature win.

Mike Gilmour and Justin Collson were up front for the second Thunder Car feature on the night. Lots of banging and crashing in this one. Shawn Arnott and Justin Collison got mixed up early on and Arnott would eventually take the lead followed by Mark Burbridge. The two broke away and ran away as Arnot took the checkered flag.

The Pro 4 Modifieds hit the track for their feature with Dan Petit and Brian Nanticoke up front. Nanticoke led lap one after a close run out of four down the front stretch. Nanticoke would battle with Mark Millard and Dan Nanticoke the rest of the way as Brian held on for the feature win.

The Ontario Pro Challenge were up next for their 30 lap main event. Tim Shanahan and Shawn Stones started out front and Stones took the lead early. Shanahan spun early after falling to fifth bringing out the caution. A few laps later another caution as Patrick Freel and Mike Westwood got involved and spun in turns 1-2 bringing out yet another caution. Larry Majuery wasn't able to avoid and hit a stopped car and was taken off on the flat bed. On the restart the master of Flamboro, Tim Norris took the lead from Stones. By lap ten the 88 of Norris was gone, out for a drive on his own. Dennis Thomson was sitting in second and Dale Wilson and Ken Lillycrop were battling hard just after that. Wilson eventually got by Lillycrop to take over third. As the laps would wind down, Thomson was gaining on Norris but was unable to catch him and Norris made it three for three on the night.

The final race of the evening was the Can Am Midget feature event. Adrian Stahle and Lucas Smith were on the pole. As the field readied for green, the Can Am Midgets did their customary four wide salute to the fans, always a hit as everyone stands and waves. An early caution as the 62 car of Brian Pescetti went around in three bringing out the caution. Stahle was leading but Ryan Fraser wasn't backing down and made Stahle fight for the lead. Smith and Darren McLennan were battling for second and third while Stahle continued to dominate, hold the lead and started to put some space between him and Smith. As the race ended, Stahle took the checkered flag picking up and well deserved win in memory of his mom. Great show Adrian! Watch the video here.
