Jon Mills Gets First Career Sportsman Win on Sunday Night at Cornwall in Make Up Feature From Earlier This Season; Fourth in Regular Feature and Sixth Place Result at Brockville Makes For Solid Weekend
Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

August 12, 2013

It was a weekend to remember for Jon Mills and the Hot Lick Racing team.  With less than two years of experience in the Sportsman division, Mills captured his first feature win, and solidified his position amongst the top five in points with strong finishes at both Brockville and Cornwall.

For the second week in a row at Brockville, Mills set the pace early in the night, posting fast time in the opening practice session.  He backed that up with a win in his qualifying heat race.  As part of the top five in points for the Sportsman division, Jon participated in a dash for cash featuring the BOS Five Star Sportsman drivers.  Mills started the race from the third position and finished in fourth.  In the 25 lap main event, Jon lined up from the inside of row five in the ninth position.  He advanced to sixth by the checkered flag, but the car wasn’t as strong as it was earlier in the night. It was later discovered that a rear torsion bar was starting give out, which caused some handling issues throughout the night.

At Cornwall Speedway on Sunday, the night started with a 20 lap feature that was held over from June 23rd.  Mills started from the outside of the front row, and maintained a second place position through the opening six laps.  Mills made the pass for the lead on the outside on lap seven, and pulled away to a sizeable lead.  With just one lap remaining, the caution was displayed for the final time, regrouping the field for a one lap shootout, but Jon continued to lead the way and scored his first career Sportsman win.

“It took a while, but we were finally able to get it done”, says Mills after the first of two features on the night.  “It goes to show that the hard work that everyone has put in has paid off.  I really have to thank the crew and everyone that supports us each week.  Hopefully we can finish the night with another strong run”.

Mills went on to win his qualifying heat race for the regular portion of Sunday’s events, and started the second 20 lap feature from the eighth position.  The first caution of the race came on lap two, and Mills was now up to the fifth position.  By lap ten, Jon was up to fourth and was battling for third as the race ended.

Jon Mills and the Hot Lick Racing team will return to Brockville Speedway this coming Saturday night as they look to capture their first Brockville Speedway wn, and continue to move up in the Brockville Speedway Sportsman point standings.  Mills will also be back at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday looking to build on their impressive results from this past week.
