Dylan Evoy Gets Top Five Finish at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday Night; Team Battles Back From Early Race Crash to Get 6th at Brockville Speedway on Saturday

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design - August 21, 2013

After opening the month of August with a pair of wins at Brockville Speedway, Dylan Evoy was hoping to expand his success to cover his Friday night home at Mohawk Raceway where he is currently in the midst of a championship battle.  Evoy was back at Mohawk this past week as well as Brockville Speedway on Saturday night looking for his third consecutive victory.

On Friday night at Mohawk Raceway, Evoy began the night with a dominating performance in his eight lap preliminary heat race.  He started from the fifth position and quickly charged to the front, taking the lead before they had completed lap two.  Evoy went on to win the qualifier, and the team soon began to prepare for the 20 lap main event later in the night.  Starting from ninth, Evoy was looking for a strong night to gain some valuable point in the chase for the championship.  He moved through the field quickly, moving into the top five after just a couple laps.  Lapped traffic played a factor in the race as they reached the halfway point, and Evoy contended for the lead for several laps.  The final caution of the race came on lap 18, and Evoy was in fourth place and he continued in that position through the final two laps.

“The car was good early in the race, but the handling started to go away over the final few laps due to loss of air pressure in the right rear tire”, stated Evoy after the race.

Brockville Speedway was up next on Saturday night.  Evoy entered the night with two consecutive feature wins and was hoping to add to it this week.  He started sixth in the qualifier and battled to a strong second place finish.  In the 25 lap main event, Dylan started from the 14th position, and had moved up a couple positions before the first caution on lap three.  On the ensuing restart, one of the leaders spun in front of the field, and although Dylan escaped without major mechanical damage to the car it self, it did destroy the entire left side of the body panels, and after a quick pit stop, Evoy returned to the track for the restart from the tail of the field.  Dylan was back inside the top ten by the halfway point of the race, and continued to battle forward.  At the checkered flag, Evoy crossed the finish line with his battered car to a sixth place effort.

“It certainly wasn’t the result we were looking for, but considering the damage to some other cars, we will consider ourselves fortunate.  That could have been a lot worse”, explains Evoy.  “Most of the damage to our car was cosmetic, and we were able to come back out and move forward”.

This coming weekend, Evoy will return to Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night and Brockville Speedway on Saturday night.  This will be the final “regular” race night of the season at both tracks, as next week’s events will be the Frenchie’s series finale at Mohawk Raceway and the Ogilvie’s Auto Triple Crown Series finale at Brockville Speedway.

Evoy Racing would like to thank Ogilvie’s Auto & Fleet Service, Plooy’s Plumbing and Heating, 1000 Islands RV Centre, Renovators Inc., Napa Auto Parts Universal Supply Group, Genesis Racing Shocks, Fireball Performance Automatics, MIE Autobody and Collision, Linde, Canadian Tire, Wurth and NGK Spark Plugs.
