Jon Mills Thrills Home Track Crowd With Dominating Performance at Brockville Speedway on Saturday Night; Team Avoids Disaster After Scary Incident Upon Arriving to Cornwall Speedway on Sunday Night
Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

August 26, 2013

When the 2013 season started just a few short months ago, Jon Mills and the Hot Lick Racing team had a couple goals for their sophomore season.  They wanted to establish themselves as a top tier Sportsman team, and they also wanted to win a race at their home track, Brockville Speedway.  After winning at Cornwall a couple weeks earlier, Mills had been on a roll as of late and the team’s confidence was high with just two weeks remaining in the regular season.  The team had events at Brockville and Cornwall on their schedule once again this weekend.

The night started out well for Mills, winning his qualifying heat race.  The team made some adjustments to the car to keep up with the changing track conditions, and returned later in the night for the 25 lap main event.  Jon started the race from the third position and quickly blasted to the lead.  By lap ten he had built up a full straightaway lead over second place, and had nearly a half track lead before the caution came out on lap 19.  On the restart, Mills held off all challengers, and went on to score his first ever Brockville Speedway victory and second win of the season overall.

“It feels awesome getting the win here at Brockville”, says Mills from victory lane.  “I really have to thank this team for all their hard work, as well as all the sponsors and fans that have supported us all year”.

The celebration from Saturday night quickly turned to concern on Sunday night at Cornwall Speedway.  The team had just pulled into the track and had dropped the back gate on the trailer and discovered a fire that had started after the seat belt brackets had touched the positive terminal on the battery and the frame of the racecar.  The fire was quickly put out, but the fire had melted the battery, master cylinder and burned up the seat belts.  The team had no choice but to load the car and return home before the races even began.

Jon Mills and the Hot Lick Racing team will return to Brockville Speedway this coming Saturday night as they look to continue their solid season.  Saturday night’s events will be the final event of the year at Brockville until the 1000 Islands RV Northeast Fall Nationals in October. A 40 lap, Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series race is on the card, and there are just 14 points between the first five drivers in the standings, including Mills.  Jon is also fourth place in the overall track points going into the final week.  Sunday night will be a big event at Cornwall Speedway as they present the final round of the Sportsman Seaway Series

Jon Mills and Hot Lick Racing would like to thank all of their sponsors for their continued support, and we look forward to working with you all throughout the season.  These sponsors include Unique Towing & Recovery, Gananoque Auto Service, Gananoque Chev Olds, Thousand Islands Mechanical, Chris Parks Heavy Truck Repair, Finish Line Web Design, 1000 Islands Painting, Laurin General Contractors, Tony Corcoran Speed and Performance, Turk’s Boat Polishing and Speedy Auto Service (Eagleson Road – Kanata).
