Merrittville for sale
« on: August 10, 2008, 07:01:29 PM »
noticed on the Dirt Track Digest that Merrittville is being put up for sale by owners Pete Bicknell and Randy Williamson, supposedly they're only interested in  buyers who would maintain it as a race track. I often thought that Pete and Randy saved the track from falling into the hands of drag racer Peter Fedun three years ago who wanted to buy it from the Irvine Family for purposes other than oval racing. The Irvines never had the money to bring the track up to standards we expect from a race facility today. I often thought it was a good business move as likely 90% of the drivers at Merrittville are Bicknell Racing Product customers. Also their go kart track has graduated a number of drivers into the senior stock car classes.
Maybe we should start a few rumours. Curt Styres of Grand River Enterprises (brother of Ohsweken's Glenn Styres) recently bought controlling interest in the American Hockey League Rochester Americans and assumed full control of the Rochester Nighthawks Lacrosse Club. GRE seems to have money to burn. (no cigarette joke intended)
Then there's Roger Slack who, according to AARN, recently resigned as an employee of Lowes Motor Speedway where he was the promoter of the short track and mid week Legends car races. Let the conjecture start..................
