FWD 6cyl Street Stocks?
« on: November 08, 2011, 08:38:27 AM »
Let's hear it....what does this need to look like? Running along side the current RWD Street Stocks, what would this new generation Street Stock need to consist of?
Just a thought and curious about the pros and cons.

and no "16v 4cyl running with Street Stock" comments. Let's move on.

In my opinion, a fabricated tube chassis has no place or nothing to do with a Street Stock. Your last comment is more where I am trying to go with this.

Is it possible  and is there enough interest to run and build 6cyl FWD Street Stocks using cars that are highly available now such as, Luminas, Monte Carlos, Taurus, Intrepids....this sort of thing.

And, could they be made to have parity so that they could still run with what our current Street Stocks are based on. This way, the option is there...FWD or RWD.

Want to start a new class ?
Make a cheap set of rules with easy to find cars /
Make it limited to no modifications ?
The first TEN new guys (not racing in another division) with their cars built and varified race ready get 2 pit passes for the year.
Forget about adding current street stocks there is no way to detune those guys down to strickly stock V-6 level.
Who is Varney Speedway on here do they have any say in what happens or is it more bull-shit ?
Put your name up so we know who it is.

Thanks for the input Mark.
THis post is intended to generate some new ideas. I don't think anyone at the track right now is trying to eliminate classes or add new ones. I'm just putting the feelers out there to see what we might be able to do to boost car counts and the idea of 6cyl Street Stocks has been bantered around for a while now. That said, I have yet to hear anyone agree on what a "6 cyl Street Stock" looks like.
I agree with all of your comments with the exeption of maybe starting a new class. To do this, one would have to go.
It is common knowledge on here that I am the announcer (Jody) at the track and in the past, I do have a say on certain things.
So to answer your question about this thread being more" bull-shit"......I would have to say no. This would be legitimate fact finding.

Incidentally, would you you be one of the "first ten"?

you say one class would have to go,you already lost your thunders, now what street stocks too?
this 6cyl street stock class sounds like it will turn sour real fast, just like in 95 they had the duke 305 street stock class, that was ment for ROOKIES at season end some of them dukes were faster then your street stocks
seems like your takin your smash an bash king of the hill cars an tryin to make a class with them now
turn your street stocks into thunders, they already have the 500 carb, the 7 inch hoosier tires,5 inch ride height,3100 pounds, tin bodys, might as well throw the cam an load bolts at them,if the other 2 cars dont like it,tell them to go to the beach,
when an where is the rules meeting????

Why FWD? Stock car racing has always been and should always be RWD in my opinion. V6 mustangs, camaros, 300zx, stealth, older supra.. there's lots of options.

What about a V6 truck class, be something different people haven't watched before. There are lots of trucks in the wrecking yards and still rear wheel drive.

Look how the trucks ran in the enduro race. Just an idea to toss out

I think of all the ideas, this one could be the most valid. Pete already has their renegade truck class that although has been at a slow start, the rules do allow for some front end changes, low ride height and decent options....with trani rules, weight penalties and so on. The 4 cyl rule is in place I believe to keep the cost low, bring newbies to the track and have something that is "techable".

The one thing thing that has been lost over the years is "affordable racing". This new class would conceivably the cheapest thing next to enduro racing. It also gives Trucks  a place on the speedway on regular Saturday night racing.....that in itself could help generate more racing interest, sponsors, supporters and help not only the racing industry but int he end make help make the difference in the survival of this sport.

Could have a spec 4.3 rule...for those tracks who want to try it....

Just my thoughts

Varney allows trucks in the street stock class, but nobody has tried one yet, as far as I can recall.

-from the varney rules:
1. BODY STYLE: Open to any make or model of North American built two or four door sedan, hatchback, Chevy S10 or Ford Ranger, dodge Dakota with a V-8 engine installed.

Great comments from all.

Let me be clear on one thing. I am not suggesting we turf another class.

I am also not suggesting creating another class. The creation of a new class would most certainly lead to the demise of another class. We already have too many classes as it is.

My comment was to fact find and look for input as to whether or not FWD 6 cyl cars could be incorporated into the Street Stock class. The truck thing is a great idea but, as Dennis pointed out, this is already allowed and nobody does it other than the enduro. And, we are not about to start a Truck Division anytime soon if they are already allowed in the Street Stocks.

In essence....how can we increase the car count in a division that is supposed to be budget conscious like the Street Stocks. 6cyl? New rules? Don't bother? Make them Thunders and get rid of 'em?

Let's try to stay on this train of thought. Remeber, we want feedback to fix this class, not abolish it.

??? I'm not sure why you are dragging Thunder cars into this?
THis has nothing to do with Thunder cars.
If the Thunder Car drivers that wish to run at Varney can agree on some rules that favour the class and not just a few drivers, and then actually show up to race, I see no reason why we wouldnt run Thunders next year.

Again, I am trying to see if there is a way to possibly attract new drivers into a less expensive division such as Street Stocks by adding 6cyl FWD to the mix. The mini stock class doesn't necessarily need help at Varney. Late Models next year sound like they should be okay.

So again, plain and simple.....is there a way to increase car counts and attract new cars to the Street Stock class by adding/modifying the rules to allow 6cyl FWD cars?

Lets leave Thunder Cars and Mini Stocks out of this. Start another thread if we want to open discussion on those classses.

WHY ONLY FWD??

You seemed to ignore the question the first time.

Probably availability, other than mustang or trucks rear wheel drive V6 cars are just as hard to find as rear wheel drive V8's

Yes...availability is teh only reasoning. That said, open it up to RWD 6 cyl.
All I'm trying to do at this point is to generate some dialogue to see if incorporating these previously excluded vehicles is actually a viable option.

There is no alternative motive or sneaky behind the scenes stuff going on....just trying to see if it would work and if anyone would be interested.
