4cyl tire rule
« on: December 13, 2006, 09:07:11 PM »
DOT approved radial tires with maximum size of 215R60 X 14 when 14" tires are used and 215R60 x R13 when 13" tires are used. 60, 65, 70, 75 or 80 series tires only. No recaps. No light truck, specialty or racing tires allowed. Passenger car tires only. Speed rating limit no higher than T alphabetically. All tires are subject to approval by Official in charge. No mixing of tire sizes allowed. Example: If running 13", all four wheels must be 13". 15’ tires allowed if they come stock on year, make and model being raced.

This is the new tire rule for the 07 season ,unfortunately its different then everyone else rules and I wish they had of gone with the Falken Azenis like Peterbourgh since they are the most inexpensive at 87 bucks each but thats just how it is .

There are several things I am not clear on and maybe someone here can clear them up .

1- Why would they say you can run a 215/60/13 T rated when that tire does not exist  nor does a 205/60/13 T rated and there is some question if 195/60/13 T rated is even being produced anymore ?

2- Does the new rule mean you cant run 15 s on Mustangs anymore since according to Ford 15s were never available on 4cyl Mustangs ?

3- Is there no minimum UTOG  that you are allowed to run as long as it is a  DOT - T rated tire ?

4-  Maybe I am over looking a make and model of car that is legal to run at Barnie in the 4cyl class but it would seem there is no car that came with 15s on it that meets the class rules .

Anyone have the answers to these questions  ?

Mustangs were not allowed running 15 inch tires at Barrie. I Run a 95 Cavalier at Barrie and it came stock with 15 inch Tires and i believe they came stock on some of the older cavaliers

If they are the mythical 215/60/13 s I will take them but I think that size only comes in Jackalope brand.

The only one that I know used to make something close to that size was BF Goodrich, but that has long been discontinued!

So why would they make a rule for a tire that does not exsist ?

contact the legends series, they run either a spec 215/60/13 or 205/60/13 bfg.Should be able to get a stack of used ones, likely shaved also. The tire rule specifying that size has been in place for many many years at most tracks that run ministocks. It is a little outdated but the tracks have just not bothered updating the rule, for whatever reasons.
