SOUTHERN ONTARIO SPRINTS PR: HUMBERSTONE WIN MAKES FOUR IN A ROW FOR WESTBROOK

By Greg Calnan (Port Colborne, Ontario) – When Dylan Westbrook scored his first career 360 sprint car win on July 2nd at South Buxton Raceway with the Southern Ontario Sprints few could have imagined the rookie driver would be undefeated one month later. The Oakland, Ontario native captured his fourth straight win on Sunday night at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario.

Cory Turner and Westbrook led the 19 car field to the green flag in the ninth event of the 2016 SOS season. Turner led the early circuits of the 25 lap main event. A pair of yellow flags on laps 2 and 5 for spins by Barry Beck Jr. and Stan Zanchin slowed the pace of the opening stage of the race.

The next 15 laps ran caution free and were highlighted by a good battle between Turner and Westbrook. The two battled back and forth with Westbrook finally taking control of the top position on lap 17. While the lead was being contested both Dave Dykstra and Chris Steele worked their way from the sixth row into the top five.

On lap 18 third place runner Shawn Sliter broke the left front on his car and pulled to the infield. The troubles put a dent in his title hopes as he entered the race second in the standings behind Westbrook.

The third and final caution flew on lap 20 for a slowed car. On the restart Westbrook pulled away from the field and cruised to the win. Turner held off a hard charging Ryan Susice for second. Dykstra and Steele completed the top five.

For Westbrook the win marked his fourth in a row with the SOS. That combined with a pair of wins in weekly competition at Ohsweken Speedway gave him a total of six wins at four different tracks in just over a month.

The Southern Ontario Sprints continue their 2016 season on Saturday, August 13th at South Buxton Raceway in Merlin, Ontario.
