KENNINGTON GETS TOP FIVE RESULT IN CASTROL EDGE DODGE

July 12, 2014.  Driver DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team opened up the western swing of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series schedule with a top five finish at Edmonton International Raceway on Friday night.  It was a solid result after 300 laps of hard fought racing during the inaugural visit to the Alberta track.

As the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team began afternoon practice they were searching for a better handling race car to improve their lap times.  “It has been pretty tough for us understanding the characteristics of this new car but we’ve definitely made some strides” said Kennington.

The team continued to make adjustments all afternoon and Kennington would qualify the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge ninth.

When the race began it looked as though the correct changes had been made and Kennington moved forward several positions in the early going at the ¼ mile track.  Not long after the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge slipped back and the car wasn’t behaving as it should.  Kennington knew he had a problem.

“I knew something wasn’t right but we wanted to make sure before making a pit stop” he explained.  Finally taking to pit road the team discovered a flat tire and while they went a couple of laps down to the leaders they never panicked.

“The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team did what they needed to and then it was up to me to get back in the hunt” stated the driver.

Kennington did just that.  Battling to move forward the rest of the way and earning the free pass he was back on the lead lap midway and charging as the race wound down.  When the checkered flag waved to end the night the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge crossed the line in fifth spot.

“What a job by everyone, making the right calls, good pit stops, it was a great team effort for this fifth place finish.  We made some good strides tonight and now we’re very anxious to get back in action on Wednesday in Saskatoon” proclaimed the driver.

With the result Kennington remains fourth in the overall point standings just three points from third.

The next event for Kennington comes up Wednesday July 16th at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon, SK.
