LABOUR DAY WEEKEND ANOTHER CLASSIC

With Mother Nature staying friendly over the Labour Day weekend, fans, drivers and staff are marking the annual double header racing event another Classic.  Presented by Ultramar, Mystical Distributing, Lucas Oil, Custom Carts, Holiday Inn and Rock 107, the annual racing bonanza at Brighton Speedway included Southern Ontario Sprints, Pro Stock and Comp 4 Invitationals, Canadian Modified Dash for Cash, all of Brighton’s regular classes, Minivans, Enduro Bowlling,  the Kid’s Club Carnival, Lawn Tractor Pulls, free camping and a fireworks display.  Everyone in attendance had something of interest to grab their attention, and the event will go down in history as one full of racing memories.

“We loved the Labour Day Classic Event at Brighton Speedway!” said the Stuckless family, from Cobourg, who camped on site all weekend. “We can cheer through a double header weekend as a family, focus on everything racing, and watch the antics, bravery and skill of both local and guest drivers who do a great job running around the track.  We will make this an annual stop for us!”

A big draw for the annual event is the Southern Ontario Sprint final Points Race, and there is something about Labour Day weekend that seems to agree with Ryan Hunsinger.  The Brantford driver held off a determined Rick Wilson to claim the feature win on Sunday night for his third career SOS triumph, all of which have come on Labour Day weekend.  Meanwhile, Justin Martin entered the evening forty-one points ahead of Adam West in the battle for the SOS championship and clinched the title with an eighth place finish.

Clinching big feature double wins were local favourites #72 ProStock driver Doug Anderson, and #57 Canadian Modified driver Charlie Sandercock.  Other notable wins went to Nathan Bosma, #09 Picture This Pure Stock, Kyle Sopaz, #12 Bill’s Johns Comp 4, Andy Fletcher #42 Quinte Towing Sitnger, and the #0 Southern Ontario Sprint Glenn Styres.

The next race event is Maestro’s Painting Contractor’s presentation of the Leon’s Trenton, School Bus Races.  The traditional passenger transport vehicles have been overhauled and will hit the 1/3 mile clay oval in racing form. Four of Brighton’s regular classes, Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modifieds, Bill’s Johns Comp 4, Picture This Pure Stocks and the Quinte Towing Stingers will hit the tight bullring for a night of fantastic family entertainment. Brighton Speedway Pro Stocks will be competing at Merritville Speedway, but the Flat Track 4wheelers will be back for their final racing event..  The Green Flag flies at 7pm on Saturday, September 12th.
