MARTIN ROY CAPTURES TOP TEN RESULT
Mirabel, Que. July 7, 2013 – The road to a top 10 finish wasn’t easy for Martin Roy during Sunday’s Jiffy Lube 100 at Circuit ICAR.
After making some brake adjustments after the first practice session that benefitted #90’s Batteries Expert/Gamache/Veloce Dodge, qualifying 12th was a little disappointing.
“I expected to qualify a little better, I thought we would be inside the top ten,” Roy said after qualifying. “But the changes we made will hopefully make us better in the race.”
During the contest Roy maintained his position for most of the race, lingering just outside the top 10. However a long green flag run did not suit the car, and the handling on the vehicle began to break down.
“We went too far on the changes, loosening up the back too much and it hurt us,” Crew Chief Mario Gosselin said after the race.
An opportunity presented itself towards the end of the race when a late caution flag closed up the field. The caution gave the tires a chance to cool down and Roy saw his chance to finally break into the top 10.
#90’s final charge paid off and he was able to navigate his way into a 9th place finish.
The satisfying finish puts Roy tied for 5th in the standings, with a comfortable 9-point lead over the 6th place driver.
Roy will compete again in next weekend’s A&W 300 at the Motoplex Speedway and Event Park in Vernon, BC.
