Title: Rusty at CPT
Post by: ernie on November 13, 2009, 04:19:23 PM
Is Rusty worth $100  :-X ;)

Just CPT trying to recoup Rusty's appearance fee. Its just the way it works.

However, there's no way I'm paying 100 dollars to meet a celebrity of any stripe. Not unless I'm paying them to teach me something.

(For those wondering what we're talking about, there's an option to be a part of a special private VIP meet and greet with Rusty Wallace that goes for about an hour before his public appearance at the show. The cost for that honor is 100 dollars even.)

Understand that its nothing against Rusty. I just have an issue with the whole idea of it. The reason these guys are famous because they were marketable to regular shmoes like us. We made them.

Now we have to pay to be in their presence? Not for me thanks. I'd rather sit and have a beer with Kirk Hooker. Im sure it would be much more entertaining.

One year at Michigan my cousin, who is a HUGE Rusty fan, waited in line at a souvenir booth for 2.5 hours to get Rusty's autograph. By the time he got to the front of the line Rusty was sooo drunk from Miller Lites that his signature looked like a Dr's prescription scrawl. Needless to say he was a bit disappointed. The next year he couldn't get to Michigan so I told him if I saw Rusty I'd try to get a better autograph for him. Well I'm on 3-wide's side of the Rusty fence so there was no way I was going to stand in line so I picked up one of his 8.5 x 11 promo cards and signed it myself  ;D It wasn't too bad either. Everytime I saw my cousin I'd look at the "Rusty" autograph and snicker. After a couple years of this I started to feel a little guilty so I fessed up. Little rough there for a while but we laugh about it now.

The key word here it's an option and you don't have to pay that to see him this is a private meeting with him. He still comes out and the public can see him. Some may want to pay to do this and some might not just an option.

I have been a Rusty fan since I was 4 years old, watching him jump around on ontop of his #27 Kodiak Pontiac after he had just won the championship.  I have cheered for him through thick and thin, and ever shed a tear when he retired. I have been to 11 NASCAR cup events and I have never met him.

So you can bet yer ass I will be paying the $100 to meet him. I'm just upset with the "2 items max" allowed to be autographed. Thats probably for the better or I would bring my 31 Die Casts for him to sign. Now I have to figure out which ones to bring   ;D

The reason for that is to make sure everyone gets a chance to get stuff signed in the time they have and some people that sell collectibles just bring tons of stuff so they can sel it.

$100 to meet your idol. Seems pretty reasonable to me. A friend of mine paid 4 bills to meet KISS. I was jealous, but also understood his reasons. As Snotrod wrote, if your a fan it just makes sense. I like Rusty, respected him as a racer. I'll leave the meet and greets to his true fans.
Comments have been made that its too much $. If Rusty isn't your first choice I'm sure there is someone you would pay $100 to meet in person. Lets respect his fans and pass the word on that this opportunity is being presented.

Now for next year lets work on getting the one and only racing legend Dick Trickle. I'll be first in line!!

Hope to see many of you at the show. Bring a friend.
Only 147 days till practice day.  8)

If we get asked to, then we will. The car is pretty smashed up, more so than last year haha

A smashed up car on display is better for business anyway.
 ;)

With word that Rusty Wallace coming to CPT this year watch for another announcement coming with possible apprence of one more NASCAR driver and Dirt Sprint driver from the US. This is the rumour going around so if true would be a great show to catch as CPT put on a great show.

A picture of Schrader is up on the CPT site now with more info to come. I'd rather talk with Schrader than Rusty if I had the choice.

Ernie I'm with you. Ken Schrader is a great guy. Johnny Benson seemed to be the most down to earth guy I have talked to in Nascar. Steward was a total knob and didn't get to know him as he was to busy crying to his girlfriend at the time.

I met kenny twice this season, once in NC at his shop while doing a tour and once when he raced at SSW, He was quite and didn't say much unless you asked a question. I'm looking forward to meeting rusty I was a fan as a kid and still have a tonne of stuff.
