NASCAR CANADA STEPS UP PURSE BIG TIME
« on: September 17, 2008, 06:22:34 PM »
It was reported today that Nascar Canada, Canadian Tire Series, has expanded its payout purse to the race teams. All teams effective this week will receive a minimum amount of $10,000.00 per event for starting money, on top of that it is reported that the payout structure will be increased by 32% from 1st to last place by 2009.

Nascar Canada sees this as a major step forward in doing what is right in the Motorsports Market place and is determined to keep the Teams financially sound, into the future.

As the cost of operations has increased, Nascar has taken the approach that they want to take care of the people that take care of them and this exercise of cash injections into the series will bring allot of light onto the Nascar Canadian Tire Series.

An Official announcement is expected on Friday, September 19th from Richard Buck, Nascar's Official Manager of the Nascar Touring Series across North America, and is expected to be a very welcome sign to the future of Stock Car Racing in Canada.

A very big- Well Done- from race fans across Canada.

I was trying to do the math and find it incredulous that they'd pay more than the Nationwise series for the back markers. Do you think it might be $10,000 to win? Most of the venues this series plays at doesn't have enough seating or fans to justify a purse as big as you indicate, plus the series has to pay to run at the bigger events like Edmonton. Hope Lilydale sells a lot of chicken.

I know what your saying because I did the same thing - but if they were to use some of the money that Canadian Tire pays in, which is a Million per year, and the tracks pay around $50,000.00 for a show, based on 20 cars average, thats $200,000.00 per show.

The number seems to be a little off the wall.
I could see them putting in another $10,000.00 per show and spread it out, even though that sounds cheap- its Nascar- and that makes more sense. That would mean an average of $500.00 more per car... I hope I am wrong because that is flat out embarrassing to every race team in that series.
They might as well run their cars in Enduro Races- It would pay more....

I think Nascar is good on this one and they know the Teams cant survive on what they are making at the end of the day.
Even a guy like Steckley who is kicking ass and winning races, is loosing money every time he runs.

Think about it- Nascar is the best racing series in North America and they are not stupid.
If they payout more money they will get more cars. More cars means more money!!
I think Nascar is on to something here by paying the guys who put the show on.
Receive more money, and build the series to be number one in Canada. Its about time.
Thats why they are Number 1 in racing- because they care.

It has to be 10,000 for the win as I don't see them giving ever driver 10,000 just to start unless they are paying them in Canadian Tire Money(Monopoly Money) & Lily Dale Coupons.

That could be Evan- But if someone offered me $10,000.00 dollars in Canadian tire money, or $10,000.00 in US or Canadian currency--- I would take the CTS Dollars.
At least they dont go up and down !!

At 10,000 to show everyone and their brother would buy or make a 1/2 assed NCTS car for $20,000... Make one lap and park it.

At 13 events that $130,000, subtrack that 20K crap car, and 40K to travel in style thats 70K a year profit. Make a rather nice living off that....

I'd check your source on that one...

I think you may be confusing this with a news report yesterday about the purses for the Craftsman Truck Series going up by over 10% next season.

However, I can see NASCAR increasing the NCaTS purses by $10,000 to make the series a little more affordable.....the purse for this weekend is almost $92,000...highest purse yet!

40 k to travel ???    where you get your fuel from because I want that price ..   teams can spend 20++ k  on the trip outwest alone --- 3 or 4 trips to la belle province and one trip to the east coast ---- plus testing dates --- the fuel cost this year has been far out weighing the purse money by a long shot .....

I found out more on this deal today from a very reliable source.
Its $10,000.00 extra for the year in 2009- which based on 20 cars per event is about a whoping $31.25 per race bonus- which wouldn't even cover a Pit Pass.

Regardless of the amount, it is being publicized because they are trying to build the car count and bring in new Race Teams for 09.
I hate to break it to them, but my original post of $10,000 per car- per event- was border line to keeping the Teams that are already there.
For a New Team to start up, they are looking at a minimum investment of $200,000.00 just for equipment and even thats low.
With that in mind, $10grand per race wouldn't be enough to cover track expenses, although it would help.

The bigger news that has brought this on, and this is being kept hush hush, is the announcement of at least 6 cars that will not be back next year for sure- all top 10 Teams
with some of the biggest sponsors in the series.
I know who the Drivers and Teams are, and have talked with them all, but I am not going to say who they are because they want to make their own announcements, and I respect them for that.
When you see the names that are leaving it is going to shock the racing world in Canada and to say the Nascar program will survive this blow is something I would not bet a single dollar on, not even $31.25 !!
