Community Living Haldimand ready to hold
Sixth Annual Motorsport Showcase May 8

Event highlighted with Mark Martino’s Pro Stock drag car

CAYUGA, ONTARIO (March 30, 2009) – Community Living Haldimand Motorsport will again kick off the local motorsports season by hosting the 2009 Motorsport Showcase Friday, May 8 at the Marty McSorley Community Pavilion in Cayuga.

“The event is a natural to our community,” stated Warren Burger, Corporate Fundraiser Chairman.

“Cayuga has always been a hot spot for motorsports.  It’s great to have the drivers and crews take time from their busy schedules to come out and spend a day with the members of Community Living Haldimand.  The Motorsport Showcase allows the individuals to get an up-close look at the cars and spend some time with the drivers on their own turf,” Burger added.

This year’s event will feature Mark Martino’s 222- miles per hour Pro Stock.  Martino, of Stoney Creek, Ontario is in his second year of IHRA Pro Stock Racing.  Mark’s Pro Stock is based on a Chevrolet Cobalt and is powered by an 820-cubic inch engine with a five-speed Lenco Transmission.  Martino, currently Canada’s fast Pro Stock driver, comes from a racing family. His father Tony Martino was a familiar racer with his Ford in the 1960s.

“We always get a great response from the racing community,” stated Bill Mehlenbacher, Fundraiser Committee Member. “The racers come out and enjoy this worthwhile event and get to meet some really great people from our community.”

Glenn Styres of Ohsweken, the 2008 Southern Ontario Sprint Car Champion, will be making a return visit to the event.  Mike Thorne of Caledonia has confirmed that he will be returning as well.

Sausage on a Bun or a Hot Dog and refreshment can be purchased for $3.00, with all proceeds going to Community Living Haldimand.

“The event gets underway at 11:00 a.m. and runs until 1:00 p.m. and is open to the public,” adds Burger.

Community Living Haldimand is Celebrating 50 Years in 2009 and a number of other activities are planned this year to commemorate Community Living Haldimand’s 50th Anniversary including the Motorsport Showcase race season "kick-off" fundraiser event on Friday, May 8 at the Marty McSorley Community Pavilion, located at Community Living Haldimand, a special 50th Anniversary Celebration at the Fisherville District Lions Club Community Center Tuesday, May 12 and the Fourth Annual Community Living Haldimand Golf Tournament on Wednesday, July 15 at Dunnville’s Freedom Oaks Golf Club.
