It's all about the show, give the audience what they want (within reason)... We didn't really need to be that close to the wall, right... tee hee, but it does add to the enjoyment factor. Honestly, the first part of the year was a mess, new suspension, new turbo, different maps, different power delivery all added up to the "getting used to" the handling.
Notice, once we fixed the coil over / bumpstop scenario, things all of a sudden got super smooth with much less oversteer and more neutral handling.
The video with the 2008 red WRX had a tiny turbo on it. Basically a modified TD04, just like the one in your car now. Super quick spool up, but it ran out of breath up top and it was no use running any length of time above 5500 rpm. The last video I posted, was a different turbo as well, it was a VF23, only 30 HP more than the TD04 but gobs and gobs more torque, over 320 Lbs ft of torque.
This year, I ran with a modified TD05 with a 6cm turbine side, it produced 370 WHP with similar amount of torque, but the problem with that was, the hot side was too small and restrictive resulting in high EGT's. I've got an 8CM hot side now going into the car which should produce the same amount of power, maybe 380 ish WHP, but it'll run a lot cooler, and can sustain longer under power for Solosprint and Time Attacks. Hope you come out to play on those events, you'll get more than addicted.. LOL
So, it should be lots of fun at the KOTH for next year.. I think you'll be having lots of fun with your new toy as well..
