KENNINGTON FINISHES FOURTH AT KAWARTHA, SECOND OVERALL

September 22, 2013.  DJ Kennington and the entire #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team gave every ounce of effort they had at the final NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event of the 2013 season on Sunday at Kawartha Speedway near Peterborough, ON.  While they did earn their eighth top five result of the season, they fell just short of claiming another series title.

The race was scheduled for Saturday but rain forced a one day postponement and when the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge hit the track it was fast.  Kennington and crew however continued to look for more speed.  The changes they made did not help and the team would return for almost their original set up.  “We tried some things and it’s all with the hope of making us better, it didn’t so we went with what we knew would be very good” said Kennington.

Kennington would qualify the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge third and start the race from the inside of row two.  The drivers set a fast pace in the early going and Kennington did move quickly up to second spot.

Following scheduled pit stops for fuel and tires the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge was back in the pack but once again rapidly moved toward the front.  “We were going hard all day long” said Kennington.  “The championship was so close we knew a victory was really the only way to assure us the title”.

As the laps ticked away Kennington pushed the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge back up to second position.  “We got back to the front but I could feel the handling of the car starting to go away” explained the driver.

In the final stages of the race Kennington would surrender a couple of positions and eventually cross the finish line fourth.  Another strong effort for the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge but he would fall just short of the title, finishing just two points back of top spot overall.

“It stings that’s for sure” said Kennington afterwards.

“We came here to win and win a title and we came up just a bit short.  I tell you though it’s not because of a lack of effort.  I’ve got the best team of guys out here and they worked their butts off all year”.

“I have to thank everyone who supports us, all of our partners that help us and allow us to compete like this.  Congratulations to the #22 team but we’re going to be taking that title back in 2014”.
