Title: Summer Sizzler ACT 200 Report
Post by: slapdown on September 14, 2007, 09:10:21 PM
It was optional Friday practice tonite and quite a few cars took advantage of the track time. Practice started at 4pm but I didn't get there until after 6 so didn't see all cars on the track. Very few Ottawa or Quebec ACT representation tonite. Hope a couple more show tomorrow, although the 30 or so cars that were there were top notch. Heard that 3 cars didn't get through the border but Lynch's prediction of 50 won't happen. Heard he is expecting 34 or so now. But like I said, Most are top notch so the race will be a good one, as long as I remember my long johns. Man, it was cold up there tonite. Here is a list of the cars that I did see. A couple blank trailers did have cars inside but I don't know who.

00 Steve Munro
02 Randy Potter *
05 Ron Henry *
9 Robbie Thompson
9 Brandon Watson
11 Claude Leclerc
15 Joey Lacquerre *
18 Jamie Fisher *
27 Marc Curtis Jr. *
32 Jean Paul Cyr *
40 Eric Chase *
45 Brian Hoar *
46 Norm Mayhew
48 Robbie Crouch *
55 Brent Dragon *
55 Darren Thring
70 Scott Dragon *
71 Dan McHattie
80 Donald Theetge
81 Bryan Mercer
84 Larry Jackson
88 Jacob McGrath *
89 Scott Payea *
91 Patrick Laperle
97 Joey Pole(Polewarczyk) *
99 Roger Brown *
99 Linc Brown

Now that's a quality field ! Wish a few more Ottawa/Quebec cars could show. Fifteen of the 26 cars are American. Only four are from the Quebec ACT series.

that's odd to hear that 3 people got stoped at the border......

I figured 50 was to high a # anyway....but if there was 30 there tonight that's really good, beacuse I did not even expect to hear of that many cars being there tonight, I would assume atleast 5-8 more cars will show up tommrow if not more...

and from what I'm hearing tommrow night is gonna be a lot colder...have to bust out the jacket and toque forsure...

thanks for the update

the 88 of Mcgrath might be Ottawa's Al Dickie car. Jacob drove it at CCS on the 8th. Won the pole. Thought maybe the Napa 31 of Mcpherson might be there from Ottawa. I had planned to go down this weekend but circumstances changed and I was worried that with 40-50 cars and only 34 to start there was always  a chance Munro would not make the feature.

Heard that MacPherson is running the Price Paving car this weekend at Adirondak Speedway. Also heard that the Kawartha regular Owen Smith ( 29 ) was running tonite at KD. I'll try to have a report up tonite, once I thaw out.

Did a lot of guys get torn up at CCS, or why aren't local guys supporting this event?

the ccs race was pretty clean (well kinda!) i dont think thats the reason for no ccs late mods, there was only one kawartha  car at ccs on the 8th maybe al lack of communication between tracks?

Patrick Lapearle wins easily.  Second place went to Pete Vanderwyst, driving the 99 car of Roger Brown's (not to sure why though). Third place went to Joey "Pole".  Pretty clean race with the exception of one big wreck involving Linc Brown and the 46 Kawartha car.  Other then that there was only a few spin outs.

Vanderwyst was driving as Roger Brown was one of the guys that could not get over the border. The Ontario drivers had OK nights. Larry Jackson had the best showing with a 6th, Robbie Thompson was 9th, Bryan Mercer was 18th and Dan McHattie was 20th. The 7 of Nick Sinopoli was near the back of the 29 car field. And as said Linc Brown broke something ( tire I think ) in 4 and hit the outside and inside wall. The 46 of Norm Mayhew also got caught up in the wreck. The 55 of Darren Thring finished 22nd. A pretty good show but I was hoping for some more side by side racing. BTW Laperle, Vanderwyst and a few others went the entire 200 laps with no stop for fuel or tires.

I realize neither Rome nor car counts were built in a day, but damn, those numbers aren't near what I thought they were going to be...

The ACT site is quick. Here is their report.

Quebec Late Model stock car driver Patrick Laperle dominated the $50,000 ACTion Super Series “Summer Sizzler 200” at Kawartha Speedway in Fraserville, Ontario Saturday night, taking his second American-Canadian Tour victory of the season.  Laperle, a native of St-Denis, QC outside Montreal, earned a cool $6,000 for his win.

“I like fast race tracks like Kawartha,” said Laperle in victory lane, who had never seen the state-of-the-art 4/10-mile speedplant until this weekend.  “It reminds me of the track in Lakeland, Florida, but it’s just a little bit smaller.  I love Lakeland, and now I love Kawartha.”

Driving a car built by multi-time ACT Champion and Canadian racing legend Junior Hanley, Laperle took the lead from Brian Hoar on lap 44 and was able to run the entire 200 laps without pitting for tires or fuel.  Laperle has been running in selective ACT Late Model Tour events in 2007, focusing his efforts on winning the Serie ACT Castrol championship in Canada.  He leads the point standings in that series entering the 300-lap season finale at Autodrome St-Eustache (Montreal) on Sunday, Sept. 23.

Pete Vanderwyst carried the Ontario banner, finishing in the runner-up position in his first career ACT start.  A veteran of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and the American Speed Association, the St. Thomas, ON driver was filling in for third-place ACT Late Model Tour point man “Rocket” Roger Brown of Lancaster, New Hampshire, who was unable to attend the race.

Eighteen year-old Hudson, NH driver Joey “Pole” Polewarczyk, Jr. finished third, hot on Vanderwyst’s heels.  Scott Payea of Milton, VT and Randy Potter of Groveton, NH finished fourth and fifth, respectively.  Kawartha Speedway point leader Larry Jackson finished sixth, unofficially, ahead of Donald Theetge, Robbie Thompson, Scott Dragon, and Eric Chase.  ACT point leader Jean-Paul Cyr finished 11th, the final car on the lead lap.  The finish was Cyr’s first outside the Top 10 in eleven races this year.

The ACTion Super Series returns to Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl in Barre, VT for the 44th Annual Chittenden Milk Bowl on Sat./Sun., Sept. 29/30.  For more information, call (802) 244-6963 or visit www.acttour.com.

I hear that Mobil. Thought the support from the Quebec series might have been a bit better. Hell, Ottawa had 32 cars. Maybe KD should try running a Castrol race next year earlier in the season.

My thoughts exactly...I thought more of the guys from CCS would've came out, or even someone like Steve Robblee, who has ACT-legal equipment around here....

not a bad race...would have like to see a bit of a closer finish, not half a track lead or w/e he had...but congrats to Patrick on the win...running 200 laps on 1 set of tires is impressive and the car looked stuck to the track even near the end.

was expecting a few more cars, but still a nice field.....I found it funny, soon as I seen Sinopoli hit the track in the 2nd heat, I turned to my dad and said....well he's gonna wreck half the field in turn 1...well turn 3 he almost did! ::)   looked like he took it easy in the feature though wich was good.

anyone know what happend to McCattie?  beacuse to me he looked to be the best Kawartha car in there, and from what I seen he might have had a shot at the win.

once I hurd they messed with the Sizzler format I was iffy on the whole deal, well after tonight it has it's pros and cons  new way v.s the old way.  what I'd like to see next year is have the summer sizzler back like it use to be (open comp....3 segments) and then have the ACT race a different thing in it's self.

I was also expecting a bit of a bigger crowed, something more like Kawartha's had on OSCAAR nights..but guess the cold & $$  kepth some people away.

With the way the rules package is (and presumably how it's going to be, if what the word is is true) I don't know if you'd get many Flam-Del-Sau competitors anymore to run Kawartha...

decided to skip Oshweken as I knew that show would run long (A main finished after midnight) and went to KD. (Feature ended at 9:40 and back in Burlington by 11:30 was great)  Only negative I could see (and I'm sure Tom Curley was likely yelling) was that there was only one tow truck that I could see in action! If a car had to have been double hooked, it may have been a problem. Seemed to take them way too long to get the Brown-Mayhew wreck off the track. Surprised a few more Quebecois were not there, but maybe their haulers are only good for the two hour run to Ottawa or Barre-LOL.
Truly sad that the LM tracks in this province can't agree on rules packages (even Flammy and Delaware run different tires -wheels) and when crates are encouraged, they can't even seem to agree on what hp crate to use

yea I'm not sure what was going on there, from the weeks I'v gone...they usaly have 2 (not always but usaly do) so I would have thought with this event last night they would make sure to have 2

I was watching from the concrete block that covers the transformer in the infield (behind the green building), and there were two tow trucks back there, they just only ever seemed to need the one. Pretty impressive race, seems like about every LM race I have seen, every third guy is driving over his head trying his damndest to wreck the so-and-so who tapped him 30 laps earlier.

Apparently the guy who normally drives the 99 couldn't get over the border because of a criminal record, just something I heard third hand, Mike Mccoll called Vanderwyst while he was golfing lol, everyone was impressed with how he ran, considering he got introduced to the car 7 hours earlier.

The Ottawa promoter said at the last race he hopes to have 2 ACT races next year and OSCAAR. One would hope he might have the OSS as well.
