Super Stock question

I was told 84-91 Vettes came with aluminum water pumps part number GM #14047008  If so can we use an aluminum vette pump?

Best to check with Jeff at the banquet . Maybe not. Call him after the banquet. Hopefully your team is coming saturday. It was certainly a pleasure having you guys join us this year and look forward to racing with your team for many seasons to come.

Alot of the rules book say no aluminum water pumps, except fords, but your right they were stock gm parts. ;)Try finding a short stock cast one, from old corvette's,they work fine also.

Not an expert, just tried it, refused to listen to conventional thinking, broke all the parts trying

WATER PUMP -- Stock O.E.M. water pumps only. NO anti freeze allowed in the cooling system. No special racing
pumps and must use stock-type v-belt drive.....................................that's straight out of the rule book, so the pump MIGHT be legal (i'd talk to jeff) but the serpentine system isn't.

Why do you want to go down this road? (if for the weight run a fiberglass hood, or gut the rad cradle... many have done that with out too much notice... )

Is this class not set up to be an entry level so those who desire can move on?

I don't think running an aluminum water pump would take a class out of the entry level category.....if you run a fibreglass hood you have to add weight (and depending on the supplier, a lot of $$$), and i don't think any of the cars have rad cradles anymore, it's been a few years since we started taking them out and just making fender mounts off of the hoops.

its called doing your homework,if the rulebook doesnt say, you cant run aluminum water pumps, whats the problem?
Its the guys who dont know enough about researching stuff, that would complain about running a aluminum water pump.

that might be the case in a perfect world, but it's all up to the tech guys.......if it doesn't say you can run it, and they don't think it's a good idea then you'll end up just having to change it, which on something like that (that will make a tiny little difference), i'd just ask before buying. and since serpentine systems aren't legal, they don't have to worry about not being able to use the pump that comes in the kit they wanted to buy.
