Autism Awareness Night Part of This Week’s Show at Peterborough Speedway

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

After having one of the year’s most anticipated events – the Chase for the Colours Pole Qualifier – postponed by rain, Peterborough Speedway shifts back into gear Saturday, July 4th with an action-packed night of racing. The Mini Stock, Renegade Truck and Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model divisions will be joined by the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series and the INEX Ontario Legends. It will be Autism Awareness Night at the venue known as Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval.

Autism Ontario is dedicated to increasing public awareness about autism and the day-to-day issues faced by individuals with autism, their families and the professionals with whom they interact. Their work involves advocacy, government relations and responses to various issues that affect people with autism and their families. The Peterborough Chapter of Autism Ontario has a number of events planned throughout the summer and is always looking for volunteers to offer support and social activities to individuals and their families in Peterborough, Northumberland, Newcastle, Haliburton and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

On the track, the Mini Stock, Renegade Truck and Late Model fields are still looking to have a repeat feature winner in this year’s action. A trend that began last year has continued so far in 2015, with a high level of competition in each class. For the Saturday, July 4th event, pit gates open at 3:00, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 5:00 and the first green flag of the night at 6:00.

In the point standings, Tyler Junkin leads the Mini Stock chase by 28 markers over Donovan Price, with Kevin Strutt 3rd. Feature race winners Jack Dallin and Tim Burke are 4 points apart in the Renegade Truck division, with Chris Burrage 3rd. Tyler Betts heads the Late Model field, with an 8 point cushion over veteran Dave Morgan. Mark Gordon sits 3rd, 18 points behind Betts.

Looking ahead on the calendar finds some marquee events coming to the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City.

Saturday, July 11th is the year’s second Toonie Spectator Grandstand Admission/Fan Appreciation Night. The inaugural season of the APC Pro Late Model Series visits Saturday, July 18th and an exciting month of action closes with the Mid-Summer Bash – presented by Country 105 – Saturday, July 25th.

A feature race win and some strong finishes has Ennismore, Ontario’s Tyler Junkin leading the Mini Stock point standings heading into the Saturday, July 4th event at Peterborough Speedway.
