John Baker Jr. Scores a Second Straight Ontario Modifieds Series Win at Peterborough Speedway

For its 2017 season, action with the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. has been all about parity. In the first handful of races on the schedule, the tour had 5 different winners. And each one earned their first ever checkered flag with the series. Even after Brad Stevenson and Mark Gordon scored their second wins of the year, Connor James became the 6th first time winner.
Saturday, August 26th at the second of what has now become a stretch of 3 straight events at Peterborough Speedway, nearly a dozen of the popular open-wheeled teams took the green flag for 10th show of the season, with Randy Hollingsworth and Connor James on the front row. James took the lead from his spot on the high groove and Duane Cinnamon was challenging for the lead when the yellow flag flew for a spin entering the second turn.
John Baker Jr. – the reigning OMRS tour champion – slipped into second on the restart and set his sights on the leader, with current point leader Brad Stevenson on his back bumper. J.B.J. got by James for the top spot coming-off the 4th turn, with 16 laps on the board. The #63 machine started putting slower traffic a lap down with 20 circuits complete and held-on for his second straight win. James, Brad Stevenson, Duane Cinnamon and Rick Warnes completed the fast 5. Stu Robinson Jr., Chris Burrows, Craig Stevenson, Willow Barberstock, Mark Gordon and Hollingsworth rounded-out the finishing order.
Ontario Modifieds Racing Series notebook: Brad Stevenson took a pair of OMRS qualifying heats, with John Baker Jr. and Duane Cinnamon splitting the other 2…Changes at Sunset Speedway have made it necessary for the series to revise its 2017 schedule. This year’s title holder will now be decided as part of the Championship Clash – Saturday, September 2nd – at Peterborough Speedway.
