MARTIN ROY SCORES CAREER BEST SECOND PLACE FINISH

Bowmanville, Ont. September 1, 2013 – Martin Roy triumphantly earned his best finish of the season and his career in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Sunday at Canadian Tire Series Motorsport Park.

Martin Roy was looking for redemption in Bowmanville, after his last appearance at this particular road course ended with a 20th place finish.

Roy’s #90 Batteries Expert/Veloce/Gamache Dodge drove well in practice, only requiring fine tuning prior to qualifying.  The solid car paid off, earning #90 an 8th place start for the Clarington 200.

The field was robust for the main event, with 36 cars fighting for positions. With that in mind, Roy opted to navigate with caution in the early going.

The Batteries Expert/Veloce/Gamache Dodge performed consistently well throughout the day, and Roy was able to focus on his strategy. There were a significant number of caution laps and cycling through pit stops that were shuffling the field, but #90 remained cool and confident through the chaos.

With half of the race remaining, Roy made his charge through the field, breaking inside the top 5 and settling comfortably in 2nd place.

On what proved to be the final restart, #90 made an aggressive push to attempt to earn the spot as lead vehicle. Unfortunately, there was a multicar accident that forced a red flag for lengthy clean up, ending the race due to time constraints.

“I’m so very happy to pick up the first podium finish in the series,” an ecstatic Roy said. “Our team has made good improvements all year, my crew chief Mario Gosselin had a very good set up on the car, it was very fast all afternoon and I’m really happy for all of our sponsors.”

Of Note:  Martin Roy also competed in the Camping World Truck Series event this past weekend and scored a very strong 14th place finish, a gain of seven spots from his starting position.

After Sunday’s race, Roy sits in 5th place in the overall standings, with 352 points.
