Bandolero Showcase
An absolutely fantastic night of racing at Wyant Group Raceway Friday.
It didn’t matter whether it was the Street Stocks or Mini Stocks, Pro
Trucks or Bandoleros, all the drivers came to race and they all came to
win. The racing was so great even the rain stood by to watch, rather
than dropping on the track.
The Golf’s Car Wash Street Stock feature was one of the most memorable
races in a while. Right from the drop of the green flag Kevin MacLaggen
got his #63 Chevelle into the lead and fought back contenders all the
way through the 25 lap race.
The six cars stayed door to door lap after lap. Lap 20 looked almost
like lap one.
First Brad Wrennick tried to wrestle the lead and did manage to lead the
second lap. MacLaggen disposed of him by lap three, then had the #1 of
Scott Barrand to contend with.
MacLaggen ran a nice clean line leaving room on the outside. Barrand
tried for 16 laps but just couldn’t get the speed and power to get
around Kevin. Then it was Mike Rea’s turn as he knocked on the 63’s
back bumper for half a dozen laps. He just didn’t have the momentum
either, ending the race with the #63 ‘Duct Tape’ Chevelle of Kevin
MacLaggin picking up the checkered flag, Mike Rea and the #18 J&L Frame
and Alignment Monte Carlo in second and the #1 Tailgatorz Camaro of
Scott Barrand in third.
Earlier, the #88 of Brad Wrennick picked up the Street Stock heat win
and #81 of Curtis Houben took the qualifier race win.
The Golf’s Car Wash Mini Stocks were just as exciting as the #41
Streetwise Service Neon of Jim Barnsley powered his way to the front,
fighting off challenges from Jason Gervais, Scott Kozak, Dylan Isley and
Riley Surcon. Jim ended up with the checkered flag, with #4 Tommy Guns
Original Barbershop Prelude of Shawn Magee second and Cole Nixey taking
up third in the #23 33rd Street Automotive Acura.
Earlier, Cole Nixey picked up two wins, taking both the Mini Stock heat
race and qualifier race.
The Tiger Automotive Pro Trucks were a little harder on each other,
banging their way through three races. Aaron Anderson in the #19 Ens
Toyota Tundra ended up the big winner taking the Tiger Automotive Pro
Truck Feature and qualifier. Shantel Kalika was second in the #49 OK
Tire and Auto Service Dodge Ram and Alex Leschenko was third in the #01
Family Pizza Ford F150.
#92 of Brennan Kirton won the first Pro Truck heat race of the night.
Another exciting race finished off the evening with the CrimeStoppers
Bandoleros running a 26 lap feature. It was a matter of inches as the
#47 Cupcake Conspiracy took home the checkered flag. Ty Stewart was
second in the #14 Country Style BBQ car and #93 AGI Insurance Bandolero
of Ryley Schneider was third.
Earlier, the #18 Bandolero of Ashton Everitt picked up the heat race win
and #8 of Braxton Clewes took his first career win in the Bandolero
qualifier race.
Racing next hits the track next Saturday, June 24th as the Market Tire
Super Late Model Series returns for race number two of the season, the
Lakeview Insurance 150. The series was rained out last week in Edmonton
so these drivers are hungry for some racing action as they’ve only seen
the track once so far.
Along with the Super Late Model Series, the CrimeStopper’s Bandoleros
are back, as are the Earthworks Sask Legends and the Shell V-Power
Sportsman division. Racing is Saturday evening with the front gate open
at 4:30 and the first green flag at 6:05pm. Late model time trials are
at 5:30.
