Stage Set for Second Eastern Super Mini Cup Series Show of Season

(MISCOUCHE, PE - June 13th, 2018) - The Eastern Super Mini Cup Series returns to their home track, Oyster Bed Speedway in Oyster Bed Bridge, Prince Edward Island, for Race Two of Seven on the 2018 season. The Byrne Plumbing and Heating 20 is the only race in June for the tour. The post time on Saturday, June 16th is 6pm.

Saint John, New Brunswick’s Mark Ferguson enters the second race with a four point lead on leading rookie contender Jacob Dunlop (Hampton, PE). Ferguson won the Doc Dawson’s Enterprises Season Opener by mere inches over reigning champion Matt Watson (Miscouche, PE), making the final pass of a back and forth race coming to the checkered flag. Dunlop used consistency throughout the day on May 21st by finishing second in his heat, second in the semi and third in the feature to put him second in the standings after Race One.

Logan Dawson (Tyne Valley, PE) will make his debut on track on Saturday evening during the Byrne Plumbing and Heating 20. Dawson will be familiar to race fans and teams alike as his business Doc Dawson’s Enterprises partnered with the Series to present the opening race of 2018. Dawson purchased his new race team from Don Gaudet (Miscouche, PE) and is slated to drive the cars Watson drove to many feature wins and championships on the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series.

Dunlop leads Randy Wilson in the Rookie of the Year standings by ten markers after one race. Wilson scored a top five in his first feature with the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series on May 21st.

Fans can expect familiar names in the Mini Cup ranks from around the Maritimes to line up for the green flag in the Byrne Plumbing and Heating 20 on Saturday evening on Prince Edward Island. Among those scheduled to compete include Dave Griffin, Kirk Sheasgreen (Miramichi, NB), Mike Wood, Chad Jackson (Montague, PE) and Donnie “Old Man” MacNeill.

This is the second of five races at Oyster Bed Speedway for the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series in 2018. The Series will return to the Prince Edward Island bullring for three additional Saturday evening shows on July 7th, July 21st and August 25th. The Series will then hit the road to run races in New Brunswick at Shediac’s CENTRE For Speed on September 29th and at Speedway Miramichi on October 13th.

Adult grandstand admission price for Saturday night’s Byrne Plumbing and Heating 20 is $17 (aged 16 and up), youth admission (aged eight to 15) is $5 and children under eight are admitted free of charge. Pit admission is $22 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors and grandstand gates will open at 2:30pm with racing getting underway at 6pm. The event also includes racing in four Oyster Bed Speedway house divisions, Central Engine Services Street Stock, MacCallum Waste and Septic Services Pro Stock, Provincial Credit Union Mini Outlaw and Chris's Bobcat Services Four Fun.

The Eastern Super Mini Cup Series would like to thank Byrne Plumbing and Heating of Belfast, Prince Edward Island for their race day sponsorship. Marketing opportunities with the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series are available by contacting Kirk Sheasgreen at (506) 210-0437.
