Brighton Speedway Rolls Again!
« on: September 13, 2010, 02:23:16 PM »

Crowds of people made their way to the Brighton Speedway this past Saturday to catch all of the action and excitement on the 1/3rd mile clay oval.  The race card was packed with competitive driving and awesome entertainment.  Maestro’s Painting Contractors presented race two of the Leon’s Trenton School Bus series with 13 full size buses on the track, veteran driver, #77 Bernie Rhebergen made a tremendous effort to come from the back of the field during the feature race to beat the 3D Dean LeClair.  Adding to the night’s entertainment was the Gord’s WaterVantastics in a simple 12 lap race that saw  driver Jeremy Jamieson secure the checkered flag for his first ever win.

The Bainer’s Radiators Canadian Modified Division saw rookies #7 Henry Snider and #18 Kevin Scott start on the poll and although Scott fell back the youngster Snider was able to maintain the lead for almost half the race holding off the #9 of Mat Vanderlinden and #11 of Dan Ferguson.  Snider did his best but the two veterans finally found there way around him and swaped the lead back and forth before Ferguson would finally take the lead for good on lap 18 and would hold on for the win.

In the Vanderlaan Building Supplies Late Model Divison the points battle is fierce with only 20 points between the #57 Charlie Sandercock and the #29 Phil Potts going into the night.  And the two battled it out for most of the feature racing side by side for the first half of the race.  Sandercock had the early lead and looked fast but Potts realed him in and took the lead during a mid race restart.  Sandercock would fall back to forth and Potts would go on for the feature win placing himself only 10 points in the lead as we approach the Super Feature Night and a double points event this coming Saturday, September 18th.

The Bill’s Johns Comp 4 Divison was won by #84 Derrick Greig who was ecstatic to take home his first ever feature finish.  Following Greig across the line was current overall points leader #01 Brandon Gregory however this feature win secured Greig the MacDougall Insurance Comp 4 Triple Crown Title for 2010 with only 2 points ahead of Gregory.

Other winners of the night included Joey Caume who takes home the contents of the Leon’s Best Seats in the House presented by Rock 107.  The full sized leather sofa and 42” LCD flat screen TV will now reside with the Caume household after successfully claiming two nights in the tower booth over the season, Caume’s odds were high and the avid race fan is happy with his addition.

The end of the night was capped off with the Late Model Mechanics Race, an opportunity for those who help out with the cars to get behind the wheel and take a chance.  It seemed like Legends Night at the Speedway when veterans Sam Hazelwood in the 29, Mark Raynor in the 75 and Lee Sandercock in the 57 all hit the track in the new style Late Models.  These gentlemen were dynamic in their day and it was an awesome sight to see Raynor wheel the 75 to victory lane.

The racing action is still hot as John’s Equipment presents Super Feature Night and the Danny Reid Memorial 50 Lap Canadian Modified Race.  All classes will race for double points in this end of year thriller, where championships are won and lost in the turn of a wheel.  Racing begins on Saturday. September 18th at 7:00 pm, admission is only $13.00 for Adults, $10.00 for Youths and Seniors, $3.00 for Children 7 – 12 and a Family Pass is $30.00.  For complete race details and information on upcoming events see www.brightonspeedway.com or contact the office at 613.475.1102.
