Butcher Wins 17th Annual Atlantic Cat 250

(Halifax, NS, August 13th, 2016) – Cole Butcher (Porter’s Lake, NS) took home his second Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour win of the season Saturday night in fashion, winning the prestigious Atlantic Cat 250. Butcher took the lead on lap 42 and battled with Greg Proude (Springvale, PE) and 2013 Cat 250 winner Craig Slaunwhite (Terence Bay, NS) for the remainder of the 250 laps. Slaunwhite would finish second, ahead of Proude, who fought suspension issues with his car from early in the Atlantic Cat 250. Five-time Series champion John Flemming (Halifax, NS) finished fourth in his second start of the season, ahead of Russell Smith Jr (Lakeside, NS) in Daryl Mahar’s (Hubley, NS) #66 car.

Four Atlantic Tiltload Heat races determined the starting positions for the iconic race. Harry Ross White (Kennetcook, NS) won heat one which put the Exide Batteries Rookie contender in pole position. DJ Casey (Prospect, NS), Cassius Clark (Farmington, ME) and Darren MacKinnon also won their respective heats. Smith Jr. won the King Freight Future Winners Award for the Atlantic Cat 250. White finished ninth to pick up the Exide Batteries Rookie of the Race.  Butcher also collected the Linde Most laps led award, pacing the field for 182 of the 250 circuits. Harry Ross White takes home the Exide Batteries Rookie of the Race Award with a ninth place finish.

American hot shoe Ben Rowe (Turner, ME) who was subbing for Shawn Turple accepted the Atlantic Tiltload Pole Challenge, moving him to the rear of the field after qualifying 10th. Rowe earned a cash bonus for accepting the challenge and came back to finish 11th.

Prior to the Atlantic Cat 250 the Toursec Lightning cars raced a 25 lap feature; Merle Corbin (Sackville, NS) took home the victory. Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB) took top spot in the Upper Clements Park Maritime League of Legends 50.

The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour is off next weekend but returns to Petty International Raceway on August 27th for the Cummins 150 which will highlight River Glade International weekend.
