Auto Clearing Motor Speedway
Results for Tuesday, July 15 2014

A gorgeous night brought out a packed house at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway as the two day NASCAR Canadian Tire event got under way.  In preparation for tonight’s Velocity Prairie Thunder 250, the super late models, street stocks and pro trucks laid down rubber the NASCAR drivers will love to see.

The warm weather was not only good news for the fans, but it meant track records were in jeopardy and fall they did.  In qualifying time trials the #44 of Craig Katelnikoff set a new standard in the street stock division laying down a lap in 16.240 seconds, taking 18/100’s off the record he himself set just weeks ago on May 24.

Not to be outdone, the #10 pro truck of Kevin Dyck took his May 24 record down a couple of notches timing in at 15.782, 4/1000’s faster than his old feat.

To finish off Jim Gaunt set an unofficial record in the #55 Sky Financial late model with a time of 14.310 seconds, just ahead of the 14.318 set by Greg Vangool in 2008.  The record is unofficial as this was a local points race and Jim is not running for local points.  Boasting rights only!!

In the street stock qualifier, the #15 of Todd Pluhator picked up his first win of the season, getting to the line .408 seconds ahead of Craig Katelnikoff.

In the late model qualifier, Jim Gaunt in the #55 was just ahead of the #38 of Dave Bone by .198 seconds.  Grant Edwards, making the trip from Calgary was third.

In the first pro truck qualifier, Saskatoon’s Bill Zubrecki piloted the #18 truck to the win .304 seconds ahead of Aaron Deagnon.  In the second qualifier, the #51 of Luc Haukaas of Fort Frances Manitoba took the checkers, .387 ahead of Moose Jaw’s #55 Ian McLean.

The first feature of the night was the Brock Salvage Street Stocks running the 50 lap Wes Skakun Memorial.  Craig Katelnikoff picked up the memorial trophy and commemorative flag taking the #44 Ridge Riders Roofing Chevrolet home with the win ahead of Darryl Potts in the #36 C&A Courier Torino. Ryan Fredrickson picked up the third place trophy with the #22 Globe Excavating Camaro.

The WSSL Super Late Model division took to the track next for the 75 lap Bryce Mann Memorial.  Jim Gaunt started in the fifth position and worked his way to first for the win in the #55 Sky Financial Chevrolet SS.  #38 of Dave Bone was second and Doug Bienia took home the third place cheque with the #22 Custom Foundations Ford Taurus.

The big feature of the night was the FFUN Motor Group Pro Trucks running the FFUN 100.  Nothing tougher than taking one of these trucks around the track 100 times.  Ken Dyck worked his way from the ninth starting position to the take home the big win with the #10 Fast Cat Service GMC truck.  Aaron Deagnon was second in the #12 Great Canadian Oil Change Dodge Ram and Darnell Schick took third in the #7 NexGen Mechanical Toyota Tundra.

Racing action continues today with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Velocity Prairie Thunder 250 present by Bayer Crop Sciences.  Gates are already open and the cars are practicing.  Main activities get underway at 5:15 with qualifying.  You can get your favorite driver’s autograph from 6:00 to 6:45.  Green flag for the 250 lap race is at 7 :30.

Racing picks up again this Saturday with the Kreepy Kritterz Mini Stocks, the Midwest Combustion Sportsman, the Saskatoon Earth Works Sask Legends Series and the Bandoleros.  Front gates open at 5:00 pm with the first green flag at 6:05 pm.

Don’t miss the action!
