CENTRE to Require Crates for 2012
June 6, 2012 - CENTRE for Speed announced at its May 30th drivers meeting that it will require crate engines in all Sportsman and Super Sportsman cars competing at the speedway by no later than 2012. CFS owner, Tim Wile says that the program is beginning announced now to allow competitors time to use up their existing refreshed inventory of customer built engines and plan for the acquisition of the spec speedway supplied crate engines for 2012. "Costs for custom build engines in these two classes are escalating and in the case of the Super Sportsman class we consider them to be high in comparison to other available options. Crate engines in these two classes should reduce the costs to compete significantly while improving the level of competition for our fans and drivers and making it affordable to build new cars again." said Wile. The sealed spec crate engines are roughly equal to the cost of a refresh of most custom engines. Sportman and Super Sportsman competitors will be required to run the speedway speced engine available for purchase through the speedway as of this announcement.
This program is similar in nature to the crate engine program within the speedways new ACT Late Model division. The speedway says it will continue to look for ways to reduce costs and will make additional changes throughout the season that it feels are necessary to allow new cars to be built in the Sportsman and Super Sportsman fields for weekly competition. in 2011 and beyond.
