KENNINGTON BATTLES HIS WAY INTO THE TOP TEN

June 15, 2014.  DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge visited Autdrome Chaudière for the inaugural event on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule with a brand new race car.  With only a small amount of practice time prior to the race to dial in their new machine Kennington still managed to capture a top ten result.

During the practice sessions the team felt it was important to emphasize their effort on race set up for the 300 lap event.  “With a new car and knowing this was a long race we tried to make the car handle as well as we could on the bottom and top groove” explained Kennington.

After qualifying tenth Kennington worked hard to try and move the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge forward in the field.  “It was a handful out there today” said Kennington.  “Especially in the early going”.

Due to the configuration of the race track not having a pit road a mandated yellow caution period of pit stops came at the halfway point and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team went to work to make adjustments to imrove the handling of the car.  “I was actually worried we had a tire going down prior to the stops” said Kennington.

As the race returned to green Kennington once again went to work looking to move the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge forward, again with limited success.  Looking to secure at least a top ten result Kennington was able to take advantage of aggressive actions by others in the late going and gain several positions to claim a 7th place finish.

“We expected to be better but were off a bit in the set-up of this new car.  But we did manage to get some spots late and we learned an awful lot and I know we’ll be stronger as the season moves along” said Kennington.

With the 7th place finish Kennington sits 3rd in the overall point standings.

The next event sees the series return to Quebec at Circuit ICAR July 6th.
