Evoy Wins Brockville Speedway Championship and Sportsman Feature
Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

September 7, 2010

This past weekend was an exciting one for Evoy Racing.  It was the final night of points for both the Mohawk Raceway and Brockville Speedway.  While MIR had already been decided, it was the BOS points that had been on everyone’s minds as the top four cars, including Evoy were in a tight battle for the 2010 Brockville Speedway Sportsman track championship.

The weekend began, as usual with a trip to the Mohawk Raceway in Hogansburg, New York.  The unwavering string of second place finishes continued as for the ninth time in row, Evoy crossed the line in second place at MIR.  The previous race before the streak of runner-up finishes was Evoy’s win on June 18th.  Evoy ended the season at Mohawk Raceway second place overall in track points.

“We had a solid year at MIR, but we were just a little bit off from the race winner.  We asked for consistency and we got it, especially here”, says Evoy,  “We will head back home and get ready for the big night at Brockville tomorrow night, and hopefully we can come out of there with a track championship”.

Despite a dreaded forecast of rain that could have ended the 2010 points race at the Brockville Ontario Speedway, the weather held out, and racing went on as scheduled.  Going into the night, Evoy was just three points behind the leader in points, and third place was just two points back of Evoy.  While it remained dry, the cold weather and windy conditions played havoc on the race team’s set up, especially early in the night.  Evoy started his qualifying heat from seventh place, and could only climb to as high as sixth.   The good news for Evoy is that the only one of his competitors that gained heat race points was the third place driver.  Entering the feature, the top three in points were now only separated by three points.  The team worked hard on the car after the heat race, making several adjustments to the car, looking for a much better run in the 25-lap feature.

Evoy started the race from 16th place, the furthest back of all the championship contenders.  When the green flag dropped, it didn’t take long to realize how much that Evoy wanted to claim the rights to the Brockville Speedway track championship.  Before they even completed the first lap, Evoy had put himself into the top ten, and by the first caution of the race on lap 6, Evoy was running in 6th place.  The point leader, as they were running on the track lined up for the restart was just in front of him.  On the restart, Evoy made a dramatic three wide pass to claim fourth place.  Evoy was up to third on lap 8, and when the yellow was displayed to the field one lap later, Evoy was ready to pounce on the leaders as he clearly had the fastest car on the track.  On the ensuing restart, Evoy jumped to second, and took the lead just two laps later.  For the remaining 13 laps, Evoy remained poised at the front of the field, and despite several mid race cautions, Evoy managed to pull away each time, and grabbed his second win in a row at Brockville, and the 2010 Brockville Speedway track championship.

“The last few weeks here have been great for us.  At one point in the season we didn’t think the championship was possible but we never gave up, and kept working hard and tonight it all paid off”, says Evoy.  “I have to thank my parents and all of my family, friends, as well as our great sponsors, Ogilvie’s Auto & Fleet Service, Fireball Performance Automatics, Nan’s Kitchen, RONA, Robotic & Process Automation, Subway, Linde, Unity Savings, RipNET, Charleston Lake Auto Service, Canadian Tire, Thousand Islands Concrete, Pennzoil and NGK Spark Plugs for all their supports this season”.

This coming weekend, Evoy will be at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night.  They are hosting a special SUNY Canton series race for the Sportsman division, paying $1000 to win.  On Saturday night, even though the points are over, Evoy will back at the BOS, for one final time before the track closes up for a month in preparation for the Fall Nationals in mid October.

In the coming weeks, Evoy Racing has a couple of big races on their schedule.  On September 17th at Mohawk Raceway, Evoy will continue with the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman race that was held back in June.  At that time, the qualifying heats had been completed before the rain washed out the main event.  When the race resumes, Evoy will start the 50-lap feature from the front row, and will have his best shot ever at a Mr. DIRTcar Series win.  A regular program of heats and a feature will also been on the schedule that day.

To end the season, Brockville Ontario Speedway will host their 2nd Annual Fall Nationals.  The Sportsman are in action on Saturday, October 16th for practice and time trials, and the main event will take place on Sunday, October 17th, both with a 1pm starting time.
