New Title Sponsor, New Season Opens Saturday for Maritime League of Legends Tour

(Dartmouth, NS - May 18th, 2016) - The Maritime League of Legends Tour will roll into Scotia Speedworld in Enfield, Nova Scotia on Saturday afternoon, May 21st, with a new series sponsor to kick off their 2016 season. The 50-lap feature for the popular Legend car touring series will serve as the first of eight races on the season schedule and will run in conjunction with the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Lucas Oil 100. Racing action on the afternoon gets underway at 4pm.

While the racing action on track will be headline on Saturday afternoon, the series has big off track news leading into the season opening race. Effective immediately, Upper Clements Parks will assume the role as entitlement sponsor of the series and will be known as the Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour.

“Upper Clements Parks are excited about sponsoring this years’ Maritime Legends Tour,” said Gino Thibeault, General Manager of Upper Clements Parks. “This is a very unique opportunity for us, but one that complements our current marketing strategy: to offer and sustain quality family entertainment in the Maritimes.  We wish all of this year’s drivers, a safe and successful season on the track.”

The first race of the Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour season has historically provided lots of fast paced, high energy racing that sets the tone for the entire year. Reigning champion Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake, NS) leads the field into competition after winning his first stock car touring championship last season. Butcher, who won the season opening event for the Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour in 2014 and has two series wins at Scotia Speedworld in his career, will have to rekindle some of that championship magic seen in 2015 in order to successfully defend his crown.

Justin MacNeill (Bedford, NS) made a late season push in 2015 in winning the penultimate round of the series at Petty International Raceway only to fall 15 points short of the championship. MacNeill, whose most recent championships with the tour came back-to-back in 2013 and 2014, will look to begin his climb to the pinnacle of the Upper Clements Park Maritime League of Legends Tour once again with a win at Scotia Speedworld on Saturday.

Paul Goulden (Shelburne, NS) fell only three points short of second place in the standings last season and the 2015 INEX Canadian East Masters Legend Champion is back with a goal to climb two spots in the standings in 2016. Sibling combination Emily and Adam Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS) each recorded top five championship standing finishes last season and each have their sights set on bringing home their first Legend championship.

Pre-season registration for the Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour has been strong and includes series veteran Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport, NS), sophomore drivers Craig Chisholm (Antigonish, NS) and Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB), who also won two series races in 2015. Tylor Hawes (Porter’s Lake, NS) and Kevin MacLean (Antigonish, NS) have also signaled their intentions to run with the Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour this summer.

Shane Lively (Upper Sackville, NS) and Craig MacDonald (Waverley, NS) are the first Rookie of the Year contenders registered for competition. Both have previously won features at Scotia Speedworld, Lively in a Thunder car and MacDonald in a Bandolero.

Four drivers are expected to pull “double duty” on Saturday with entries in both the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Lucas Oil 100 and the Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour 50. Reigning Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour champion Jarrett Butcher will join his brother Cole Butcher (Porter’s Lake, NS) in the Lucas Oil 100, while the elder Butcher will also drive in the 50-lap Legend feature for Braden Langille Motorsports in the #51 car.

Former Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour feature winner Nicholas Naugle (Dartmouth, NS) will also look to make his Pro Stock Tour debut Saturday afternoon, while six-time Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour feature winner and former Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour champion Dylan Blenkhorn (Truro, NS) will step into the Farrell’s Racing #48 entry for Waylon Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL). Blenkhorn will be a teammate to Will Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL), who will make his series debut on Saturday.

The Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour 50 is the first of three stops by the series at Scotia Speedworld in 2016 and is a part of the track’s opening weekend for the 2016 racing season. Included on the Saturday, May 21st card is also the opening round for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour as they contest the Lucas Oil 100. Racing action gets under way with qualifying races for both feature events at 4pm. Tickets are available at the gate on race day.
