The cage will be mounted to 1-1/2 X 3 X 1/8" wall Rectangle tubing. The sleeving was all done with .120 wall 1-1/2" as this particular cage is actually made with .120 wall. She is a bit heavy but it will be stiff for sure. We cut the cage with a bigass pipe cutter so it actually gives you a decent prep for welding. If you tack your sleeve before joining you end up with a nice open root with the sleeve as a backing plate. This gives you full penetration on your butt joint. This will be as strong as the original tubing was. If done correctly there is no need to worry about it being any less safe than any other joint on the cage

I'm coming with some pics for yesterdays and today's work...hang on!! and does anybody have any Cavalier rims 5X100mm?

Stock rocker rail where we are going to reinforce for cage mount and side impact

Reinforcement rail in place along rocker rail welded to the floor and the rocker rail box section

Drivers side rail ready to weld in

This section where it is doubled up will be where the vertical bar of the cage will be attached to

This plate is welded to the the rear strut tower and a brace to the halo joint of the cage will go here

The cage will be going in next

The vertical bar passes in to the rectangle tubing for increased resistance to shearing forces

That horizontal bar passes thru the fire wall to the strut tower

This bar holds the cage by bracing it against the rear shock tower

This is one ugly car

The filler panels on the windshield area are so we can utilize lexan we had kicking around that wasn't quite big enough

Seat Mount

The dash cluster is required or the car doesn't run I'm told something to do with theft system

Right side door welded back on

I can't race due to fiscal restraints...meaning I'm broke. I'm gunna sell the car off and maybe build another for next year. Perhaps at that point I can purchase the necessary equipment to be able to compete. Sad but true :(
