MOVE MOTORSPORTS & FORMULA TOUR JOINTLY ANNOUNCE THE FORMULA 1600 SUPER SERIES SCHEDULE

Inter-Provincial Series Will Be Comprised of Four Doubleheader Weekends

TORONTO, ON & MONTREAL, QC (April 23, 2015) – Following a successful debut for the inter-provincial championship, Jason Sharpe of Move Motorsports (promoters of the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship based in Ontario) and Marcel Lafontaine of Formula Tour (promoters of the Formula Tour F1600 Championship based in Quebec) have finalized the schedule for the 2015 edition.

The Super Series will be comprised of four premiere events, two each from the Toyo Tires F1600 Series and the Formula Tour F1600 Series. The Super Series will have it’s own points system and will feature the best open wheel F1600 racers from across North America.

Marcel Lafontaine of Formula Tour said, “The first season for the Super Series was very exciting and proved that the concept was good. The Championship came down to the very last race and Chase Pelletier won it in very dramatic fashion. This year we expect the same.”

Jason Sharpe of Move Motorsports said, “I am glad Marcel and I could get the schedule put together and continue to build F1600 racing in Canada. We worked very hard to put together a calendar that features four distinctly different tracks and attend some special events so these drivers get a chance to show how good the racing is here. I can’t wait to kick the season off.”

The season will start May 15-17 at the Castrol Victoria Day SpeedFest with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and Pirelli World Challenge at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Next is the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada, June 5-7 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The third round will be at Shannonville Motorsport Park July 18-19 and the series champion will be crowned at the final event, the Grand Prix Trois-Rivieres, July 31 – August 2nd.

In the past Canadian racing legends including Scott Goodyear, Ron Fellows, Paul Tracy and the late Greg Moore all got their start in Formula 1600. Most recently NASCAR stars like the Dumoulin brothers, J.F. and L.P, as well as Indycar driver James Hinchcliffe and American LeMans series star Kyle Marcelli cut their teeth in this form of racing.

The Formula 1600 Super Series looks to build on that history of intense competition, creating the next generation of stars for Canadians to cheer on.

Additional announcements including sponsorships, regulations and registration will be forthcoming in the next few months.
