TOP FIVE FOR KENNINGTON IN CASTROL EDGE DODGE

August 5, 2012.  No racer in any series has been hotter than St. Thomas, ON driver DJ Kennington who’d put up five consecutive victories in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series heading into the event this past weekend at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres.  While the winning streak did come to an end, Kennington put up another solid result in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge and maintained his overall lead in the championship standings.

Right from the start of practice Kennington went into the weekend with a plan.  “It’s so tough matching up against some of the road racers we just wanted to be consistent and have a solid weekend” said Kennington.

The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team worked hard to give Kennington a top performing car and succeeded.  Kennington would qualify fifth for the main event Sunday afternoon.

Just prior to the start of the race a huge downpour stopped proceedings.  Teams covered the cars and everyone waited out the rain.  Following a two hour delay, all the teams switched to rain tires and no one was sure what to expect.  “It was pretty wet on track and we hadn’t run in the rain all weekend” said Kennington.  “I wanted to stay up near the front and out of traffic” he added.

Kennington did just that in the early going.  While he did slip back a position he had no trouble maintaining touch with the front runners.  “There was plenty of action with the first few cars so I just tried to stay close if something happened” said Kennington.

In the late stages Kennington began pushing the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge a little harder and regained his top five position, one he would hold onto until the end of the race.  “That really was our goal for this event” said Kennington.  “There are a couple of guys who are specialists and it’s nice to stay in the hunt with them, but we had our eye on the big picture this week” he stated.

While Kennington’s winning streak stops at five, with the fifth place finish he remains first overall in the championship standings, 37 points ahead of second position.  “We’ll be itching for another win before the season is over” said the driver but we’re also looking for another championship”.

DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team will be back in action August 17 & 18 as part of the NASCAR Nationwide weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, QC.
