Vilarino victorious on home turf
VALENCIA, Spain - Spanish racer Ander Vilarino has taken victory at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, beating Javier Villa and Roman Thievin to record his fifth win of the season as the championship top-three locked out the podium.
Starting second on the grid for the Elite Division sprint race, Vilarino (#2 TFT-Banco Santander) assumed control at the first corner. After dominating the opening laps the Spaniard was subsequently forced to defend as the race progressed when rival and fellow countryman Villa (#64 Gonneau Racing) launched a late assault.
Thievin (#99 Still Racing-Exotics Racing) meanwhile rose through the field from sixth on the grid to cross the finish line third. He beat Antoine Lioen (#5 Rapido Racing), Willy Boucenna (#17 Pole Position 81), Freddy Nordström (#44 Orhès Competition), Azor Duena (#33 Over Drive), Stéphane Romecki (#19 Scorpus Racing), Anthony Garbarino (#6 Rapido Racing) and Romain Iannetta (#25 Orhès Competition) to the flag.
The Open Division sprint race is set to take place at 16:05 local time
